QBs Cousins, Wilson help North
defeat South in Senior Bowl

Michigan State's Kirk Cousins and Wisconsin's Russell Wilson threw touchdown passes to lead the North to a 23-13 victory over the South in the Senior Bowl on Saturday in Mobile, Ala.

Purdue's Carson Wiggs kicked three field goals for the North, and Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore was 6 of 12 for 50 yards.

Cincinnati running back Isaiah Pead of the North set a Senior Bowl record in the first half with 98 yards on two punt returns and was named the Most Valuable Player. He also rushed for a team-high 31 yards on eight carries.

Also: San Francisco 49ers rookie linebacker Aldon Smith was charged with driving under the influence in Miami Beach and held on $1,000 bond. He had 14 sacks this season, first in the NFL among rookies.

The Chicago Bears hired Kansas City Chiefs director of college scouting Phil Emery as their general manager. Emery, a scout for the Bears from 1998 to 2004, replaces the fired Jerry Angelo.

Bingson sets UNLV record in
weight throw in indoor opener

Amanda Bingson set a school record in the weight throw as UNLV opened its track and field indoor season at Northern Arizona's Mountain T's Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Bingson, a senior from Silverado High, had a throw of 66 feet, 6½ inches.

Also: The UNLV men's tennis team fell to No. 1-ranked Southern California 7-0 in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Los Angeles, dropping to 0-2 this season.

The 36th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team lost to No. 32 San Diego 6-1 in the consolation round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Berkeley, Calif. Lucia Batta defeated Stephanie Hoffpauir 6-4, 7-6 for the Rebels' only point. Batta and Manon de Lanlay beat Idl Haciraifoglu and Hoffpauir 8-3 at No. 2 doubles for UNLV (3-2), but San Diego won the other two doubles matches to take the point.

Steven Nelms and Andrew Morrell each won two individual events and swam on two winning relay teams to spark the UNLV men's swimming team to a 147-91 victory over Air Force at Buchanan Natatorium in its regular-season finale.

The College of Southern Nevada baseball team split two games at Morse Stadium. CSN (3-1) defeated Yavapai College (Ariz.) 4-2, then lost to Arizona Western, 15-3.

Wranglers sweep three-game
series with 6-2 win at Colorado

Josh Lunden scored twice to lift the Wranglers to a 6-2 ECHL victory over the Colorado Eagles in Loveland.

Eric Lampe, Pete MacArthur, Adam Miller and Robbie Smith also scored for Las Vegas, which broke the game open with a four-goal second period. The Western Conference's Pacific Division leaders swept the three-game series at Colorado by a combined 14-4 score.

Lampe, who leads the ECHL with 34 goals, added an assist to pass the Eagles' Chad Costello for the scoring lead with 58 points. Goaltender Joe Fallon stopped 28 of 30 shots to gain his league-leading 23rd victory.

Also: The Columbus Blue Jackets were awarded the 2013 NHL All-Star Game, commissioner Gary Bettman announced during the league's all-star weekend in Ottawa, Ontario. The game will be played Jan. 27.

Michael Beychok of Baton Rouge, La., won the $1 million first-place prize and an Eclipse Award as Handicapper of the Year at the 13th annual Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship at Treasure Island. The 48-year-old Beychok, a political consultant, amassed a score of $238.60 from 30 mythical $2 win-and-place wagers in the two-day tournament, which attracted a record field of 480.

Home Sweet Aspen edged Sugarinthemorning by a neck in the $300,000 Santa Monica Stakes for older fillies and mares at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif., highlighting the Sunshine Millions card featuring stakes races exclusively for California-breds. Ridden by Joel Rosario, Home Sweet Aspen ran seven furlongs in 1:21.42 and paid $13.60, $6.80 and $4.40.

Mucho Macho Man won the $400,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., beating Ron the Greek by 1½ lengths. Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, Mucho Macho Man ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:47.91 and paid $6.20, $3.80 and $3 in his 2012 debut.

Connecticut basketball guard Ryan Boatright was cleared by the NCAA to return to action, despite a finding by the governing body that the freshman and his mother received more than $8,000 in impermissible benefits before and after he enrolled in school. He is expected to play today when the No. 24 Huskies host Notre Dame.

Chris Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, will be the top seed for today's U.S. Bowling Congress Masters at Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center. The finals will be televised on ESPN at 9:30 a.m., with the winner taking home $50,000. Barnes captured the top seed with an 806-743 victory over Mike Fagan of Dallas on Friday.
