Trail Blazers sign guard Miller to multiyear deal

The Portland Trail Blazers signed veteran free-agent point guard Andre Miller to a three-year contract Friday.

Miller, whose NBA career has spanned 10 seasons with four teams, averaged 16.3 points and 6.5 assists as a starter for the Philadelphia 76ers last season.

"I'm just looking forward to the challenge, you know?" Miller said in a conference call. "I know Portland wants to accomplish a lot of things, and I want to add to that."

Also: Restricted free-agent forward Jamario Moon is joining the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Miami Heat decided not to match the offer sheet Moon signed with Cleveland. Moon finished last season with Miami.

The Cavaliers had roughly $3.2 million of its midlevel exception to sign the 6-foot-8-inch Moon, who averaged 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 26 minutes in 80 games last season.

Nike said it is giving back videotapes to two accredited journalists who filmed Xavier's Jordan Crawford dunking over the Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James during a recent pickup game at a skills academy run by the superstar at the University of Akron in Ohio.

The sports apparel giant said only one of the tapes captured the dunk, which has been an Internet sensation.

Nike said it took the tapes based on its media guidelines that no pickup games be filmed.

Diana Taurasi is ready to get back to basketball after being suspended following a drunk-driving arrest.

"It's been hard. It hasn't been an easy month," the Phoenix Mercury star guard-forward said. "I'm embarrassed. It's a bad situation, but I'm going to use it to make me a better person, a better basketball player. ... I'm ready to move forward."

Taurasi's return after a two-game penalty issued by the Mercury will be at today's WNBA All-Star game in Uncasville, Conn. -- back in the state where she starred at UConn and led the Huskies to three straight national championships from 2002 to 2004.

And though she expects a good reaction from the Connecticut fans when she takes the court as a reserve, she isn't sure if that will give her a sense of added comfort.

"You can look at it either way," she said. "The most comfortable state at the same time probably was disappointed the most. But no one's taking it harder than me. I'm willing to own up to it."

No, no, no ... Cowboys not interested in Vick

Even if Michael Vick is available, Jerry Jones said the Dallas Cowboys have no plans to sign the suspended quarterback.

The Cowboys owner has repeatedly said since Vick was released by the Atlanta Falcons last year that his team won't sign Vick.

Vick was freed from federal custody this week for dogfighting charges and is awaiting word from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about whether he might be reinstated.

Responding to a question about Vick, Jones said his stance hasn't changed.

"It hasn't," Jones said, emphasizing it by repeating the phrase twice more in a matter of seconds.

Also: The San Diego Chargers released inside linebacker Matt Wilhelm a week before their first full-squad practice of training camp.

Wilhelm started the first five games last season before losing his job to Tim Dobbins.

Wide receiver Drew Bennett agreed to a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, who are looking for help at the position in the wake of the retirement of Derrick Mason.

Bennett played one game with the St. Louis Rams last year because of a foot injury.

The Detroit Lions traded wide receiver Ronald Curry to St. Louis for defensive tackle Orien Harris.

The deal marked the second time each player has changed teams in recent months.

Curry was signed by Detroit as a free agent in April after he was released by Oakland, where he spent his first seven NFL seasons. Harris was traded to St. Louis by Cincinnati on May 6 after appearing in 14 games for the Bengals last season, his third in the NFL.

Sean McDermott replaced Jim Johnson as the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive coordinator, two days before the team opens training camp.

Johnson, 68, took an indefinite leave of absence in May to continue treatment for a cancerous tumor on his spine.
