No. 2 selection Thabeet signs with Grizzlies
NBA first-round draft pick Hasheem Thabeet signed Sunday with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The 7-foot-3-inch center from Connecticut was the second pick in the draft. Thabeet is due to make about $7.7 million over two years under the rookie salary scale.
Thabeet averaged 13.6 points, nearly 11 rebounds and 4 blocks per game at UConn last season and was named Big East Conference Co-Player of the Year.
Also: The Cleveland Cavaliers signed restricted free agent Jamario Moon to an offer sheet.
Miami has seven days to match the offer. Moon averaged 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 26.5 minutes per game last year.

Top Fuel racer Brown outruns Schumacher
Antron Brown beat Tony Schumacher by 0.005 seconds to take the Top Fuel final at the NHRA Northwest Nationals in Kent, Wash.
Tim Wilkerson (Funny Car) and Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) were the other winners in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series.
Brown won in a time of 3.985 seconds (301.07 mph), while Schumacher came in at 3.990 seconds (300.00 mph).
Also: Eighty-one-year-old Hershel McGriff became the oldest driver to take part in a NASCAR series race, finishing 13th in a Camping World West Series event at Portland (Ore.) International Raceway.
In a career that has spanned more than six decades, McGriff has four NASCAR Cup series victories and 37 wins on the West series.

Vick's dogfighting sentence comes to end
Suspended NFL star Michael Vick's federal dogfighting sentence is ending.
The federal Bureau of Prisons lists Vick's release date as today. That means Vick can shed the electronic monitor he's been wearing while on home confinement in Hampton, Va., for the last two months of his 23-month sentence.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said he will review Vick's status after the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback completes his sentence.
Also, Vikings coach Brad Childress says he has watched video of quarterback Brett Favre throwing a football and his motion "looked fine" to him
Arturo Gatti's closed coffin rested under one of his championship belts, a pair of white boxing gloves and a massive wreath spelling out his nickname -- "Thunder" -- in red flowers.
Bouquets surrounded a photograph of the former welterweight champion, flashing a winning smile.
A day after a Brazilian newspaper reported that an autopsy left the cause of Gatti's death inconclusive -- leaving open the possibility of suicide -- family, friends and colleagues filed past the coffin and pay respects.
The funeral will be held today in Montreal.
Also: The starting placekicker for the University of South Florida football player was recovering at a hospital after falling 35 feet from a gondola ride while working at Busch Gardens in Tampa.
Team officials identified the player as Maikon Bonani, 20.
Ashley Hansen clubbed a grand slam and Jennie Finch threw a two-hit shutout as the U.S. advanced to the World Cup of Softball championship game with a 8-0 win against Australia in Oklahoma City.
The U.S. (5-0) and Australia (3-2) will meet in the title game tonight.
Swift Temper grabbed an early lead then pulled away when challenged leaving the second turn and went on to a 2-quarter length upset in the $1 million Grade II Delaware Handicap in Stanton, Del.
