Pernice Jr. rides eagle to share of Sony lead

Tom Pernice Jr. eagled his final hole in wet and windy conditions to finish with a 7-under-par 63 and a share of the second-round lead Friday in the Sony Open at Honolulu. Pernice and Nathan Green were at 8-under 132.

Shigeki Maruyama had a 68 and was one shot behind. Tadd Fujikawa, the 18-year-old who turned pro after his sophomore year in high school, secured his first PGA Tour paycheck with a 69. He is at par 140.

Also: Graeme Storm of England and Richard Green of Australia shared the clubhouse lead after darkness stopped play during the second round of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. They were at 11-under 133.

Chargers considering options with Tomlinson

The San Diego Chargers appear to be bracing their fans for the possibility that LaDainian Tomlinson's brilliant eight-year run with the team could be over.

According to the team's Web site, club president Dean Spanos called the star running back Thursday to discuss reports that the Chargers might part with Tomlinson, who has been slowed by injuries the last two postseasons and will count $8.8 million against the salary cap next year.

Tomlinson, who turns 30 in June, is under contract through 2011.

Also: The Dallas Cowboys fired defensive coordinator Brian Stewart after two seasons. The team gave up 22.8 points per game this season, 20th in the league.

Mavericks' Cuban fined for 14th time by NBA

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was fined $25,000 for "improper interactions with Denver Nuggets players" at halftime and his conduct immediately following a 99-97 loss Tuesday.

The penalty was the 14th the NBA has announced against Cuban, who has been penalized about $1.5 million over the years and suspended from three games.

Also: The Charlotte Bobcats acquired 7-footer DeSagana Diop from the Dallas Mavericks for guard Matt Carroll and center Ryan Hollins.

Cleveland Cavaliers starting guard Delonte West will miss up to six weeks with a broken right wrist sustained in a fall Thursday in Chicago. He is averaging 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Air Force in duals at Colorado Springs, Colo. The men (5-0, 4-0 Mountain West Conference) won 177-123, and the women (4-3, 3-3) prevailed, 161-124.

John Mendoza (500 and 1,000 freestyle) and Charlie Tapp (50, 100 free) each won two events for the men. Friderika Szel (50, 100 free) and Rachelle Zuccaro (1-, 3-meter diving) were double winners for the women.

UNLV's Kristina Nedeltcheva won her first-round match in the first flight before losing in the Freeman Memorial Women's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Nedeltcheva upset 107th-ranked Carmen Seremeta of Oregon 6-2, 7-6, then lost to 32nd-ranked Csilla Borsanyi of Baylor, 7-6, 6-1. Nedeltcheva and Katy Williams advanced in the first flight of doubles.

Roger Federer crushed Olympic gold medal-winning doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka 6-1, 6-3 to win the Australian Open tuneup event at Kooyong in Melbourne, Australia.

Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina beat Sam Querrey of the United States 6-4, 6-4 to win the Heineken Open in Auckland, New Zealand. Querrey was trying for his second career ATP tournament victory; he won in Las Vegas last year.

Angel Hernandez outpointed James McGirt Jr. in a 10-round majority decision between the middleweights at Key West, Fla. In the other main event on the seven-bout card held outdoors, Ermosele Albert claimed a 10-round unanimous decision over fellow super welterweight Germaine Sanders.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby missed Friday's home game against Anaheim because of an apparent left knee injury. He was hurt late in the Penguins' 6-3 loss to Washington on Wednesday.

Daniel McGlone, a 56-year-old businessman who sold steroids and human growth hormone to bodybuilders from around the country, was sentenced in Providence, R.I., to two years in federal prison.

Penn State junior defensive end Maurice Evans has made himself eligible for the NFL Draft.
