Rebels top Northridge to end six-game skid
Xavier Scruggs hit a two-run homer and scored three times, and Rance Roundy drove in two runs Tuesday night as the UNLV baseball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 10-3 nonconference victory over Cal State Northridge at Wilson Stadium.
Starter Matt Hutchison (2-5) picked up the win for the Rebels (20-28).
Also: Jacksonville State football coach Jack Crowe has spoken to the family of former Louisiana State quarterback Ryan Perrilloux about a possible transfer.
Crowe said he was still performing "due diligence" and had not talked to Perrilloux, who was kicked off LSU's defending national championship team in April after repeated off-the-field problems.
West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins will make at least $20 million in guaranteed income over the next 10 years of his new contract.
Huggins will make about $1.5 million this year, including a base salary of $250,000 and $1.25 million in supplemental compensation.
Former Georgia Tech quarterback Joe Hamilton, 31, was charged with marijuana possession, driving under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run, less than a week after being hired as the school's assistant director of player personnel.

Former Vikings player held on assault of son
Former Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Darrion Scott was charged with assault and accused of holding a plastic dry cleaning bag over the head of his 2-year-old son.
Scott, 26, was charged in Hennepin County Court in Minneapolis with third-degree assault and domestic assault by strangulation, both felonies.
According to the complaint, the boy's mother said she went to Scott's home April 26 to pick up the boy when she found him with a dry cleaning bag over his head and Scott holding the bag tight around the boy's neck. Scott said he was playing with the child and wanted to see if the boy could get the bag off his head himself.
Also: Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry will be released from court-ordered electronic monitoring and house arrest so he can try out for another NFL team.
Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Richard Bernat issued the ruling when Henry's attorney, Perry Ancona, said the 24-year-old player has an offer to try out for a team. Ancona did not identify the team.
The New York Jets re-signed veteran cornerback Hank Poteat to a one-year deal.
Poteat, 30, an unrestricted free agent, spent the last two seasons with the Jets and played in every game.
The Chicago Bears released veteran strong safety Adam Archuleta, ending a brief tenure with the team.
Archuleta, 30, broke a hand early last season and started 10 of the 15 games in which he appeared.

Montgomery denied bond in heroin case
A federal judge in Norvolk, Va., denied bond for former track star Tim Montgomery on federal heroin distribution charges.
Montgomery appeared in U.S. District Court before Magistrate Judge F. Bradford Stillman. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and requested a jury trial, which the judge set for July 9.
The former 100-meter world-record holder was arrested last week on a sealed indictment accusing him of dealing more than 100 grams of heroin in Virginia.
Also: Houston Rockets guard Tracy McGrady had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder and left knee.
Dr. Tom Clanton, the team physician, told the Houston Chronicle that no structural damage was found in the ligament or cartilage of McGrady's knee. Loose particles were removed from the knee and the shoulder.
The newspaper said Dr. Hussein Elkhousy repaired a slight labrum tear on McGrady's shoulder.
Roger Federer, the world's top-ranked men's tennis player, defeated one of his most challenging opponents, cruising past Guillermo Canas 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the Rome Masters.
Andy Roddick defeated Mardy Fish 6-1, 6-4 in an all-American matchup.
Forward Nathan Gerbe signed a three-year deal potentially worth $2.55 million with the Buffalo Sabres, electing to forgo his senior season at Boston College.
