Woods' ex-caddie Williams
racially disparages former boss

Tiger Woods' former caddie caused another sensation, this time by using a racial slur to disparage his old boss during a caddies award roast Friday in Shanghai.

Steve Williams received a mock award for "Celebration of the Year" for his TV interview after former UNLV standout Adam Scott won the Bridgestone Invitational. That was the day Williams said it was "the best win of his life," despite being on the bag with Woods for 13 majors.

At an awards party filled with banter, Williams said of his interview, "It was my aim to shove it right up that black a------."

Williams was stunned to hear British tabloids had gone with the story because the awards night was supposed to be off the record. He later apologized. Woods' agent said the comment was regrettable.

Also: Fredrik Jacobson played bogey-free on an overcast day to shoot a 6-under-par 66 and take a one-shot lead at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai.

The Swede was at 11-under 133, tying the 36-hole tournament record, and was one shot ahead of Louis Oosthuizen and Adam Scott. PGA champion Keegan Bradley made two key par saves on the back round when his game started to get away from him and salvaged a 70 to stay in the picture just two shots behind.

Oosthuizen and Scott each birdied half of their holes and were flawless from tee to green. Oosthuizen avoided trouble and posted a tournament-best 63, while Scott had two bogeys in his round of 65.

Sixteen players were separated by five shots going into the weekend, a group that included Lee Westwood and Paul Casey, who lost his PGA Tour card in an injury-filled season and now has a chance to get it back by winning.

Michael Allen carded a 2-under 69 for a share of the second-round lead with Fred Couples and David Frost in the Champions Tour's season-ending Charles Schwab Championship in San Francisco.

Second in the event last year, Allen saved par on the final hole after hitting his approach shot between the grandstands surrounding the green. He was given a free drop, chipped to 8 feet and made the putt.

Couples, tied for the first-round lead with Jay Haas after a 68, rallied for a 70 after a double bogey on the opening hole. Frost had a 69 to match Couples and Allen at 4 under 138.

Japan's Akane Iijima made five birdies on the back nine in a 6-under 66 that gave her a share of the first-round lead with South Korea's Ah Reum-hwang and Taiwan's Teresa Lu in the Mizuno Classic in Shima, Japan.

Japan's Momoko Ueda was one stroke back in fourth, followed by a group of seven, including Catriona Matthew of Britain and Stacy Lewis of the United States, in joint fifth at 4-under 68.

Women's soccer team ousted
in conference tourney semis

A misplayed ball on a shot by New Mexico's Jennifer Williams in the 26th minute led to the game's only goal and sent the top-seeded Lobos to a 1-0 win over No. 4 seed UNLV in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship in Albuquerque, N.M.
