Ward nets unanimous decision
vs. Froch to win Super Six title

Andre Ward staked his claim as the top 168-pound division fighter, using his speed and a combination of lefts to defeat Carl Froch by unanimous decision on Saturday in the Super Six super middleweight tournament final at Atlantic City.

Ward, the Olympic gold medalist from Oakland, Calif., retained his WBA championship and won the WBC super middleweight belt in the final bout of the unique tournament that stretched out over two years.

Ward (25-0, 13 KOs) dictated the pace from the opening round. Froch (28-2, 20 KOs), from England, did not get going until late, finally showing some overdue aggression in the 10th.

Celtics' Green out for season; will have surgery on aneurysm

Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green will have surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm and will miss the entire NBA season, the team announced.

Green, 25, is scheduled for an operation on Monday at the Cleveland Clinic. Doctors have told him the operation "should completely repair Green's condition and that he can expect to resume his NBA career next season," the Celtics said in a news release.

If so, the timing of his training camp physical -- and the end of the NBA lockout -- might have saved Green's life and helped the Celtics avert a tragedy like the 1993 death of Reggie Lewis, who dropped dead on a practice court of a heart condition in the prime of his career.

Green, 25, averaged 9.8 points and 3.3 rebounds last season after joining the Celtics in a trade that sent Kendrick Perkins to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Also: Rodney Stuckey is returning to the Detroit Pistons, who announced that the restricted free agent signed a new contract. A person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press it is worth $25 million over three years. Stuckey, a guard, averaged a team-high 15.5 points last season.

Brandon Ashley had 17 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals to help Findlay Prep's basketball team to an 86-43 win over Las Vegas High at South Point Arena.

Winston Shepard added 15 points, and Nigel Williams-Goss supplied 10 points for the Pilots (12-0), who held leads of 31-8 after one quarter and 56-21 at the half. A running clock was used from the midway point of the third quarter on.

Hasaan Henderson paced the Wildcats (4-2) with 14 points and six rebounds, and teammate Juwan Major had 10 points.
