UNLV men's golf places second at Arizona event
The UNLV men's golf team finished second Tuesday at the PING Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, three shots behind winner Tennessee.
The Rebels shot a final-round 9-under-par 75 to finish at 17-under 835 at Arizona National Golf Club.
Freshman Ji Moon led UNLV at 6-under 207, which tied him for fifth place. He shot 1-under 70 in the final round.
UCLA's Kevin Chappell took medalist honors at 15-under 198.
Rebels senior Matt Kinsinger tied for seventh at 5-under 208.
Also: West Virginia says former football coach Rich Rodriguez owes $4 million for breaking his contract and moving on to Michigan. At most, Rodriguez countered, it's $1.5 million.
Ultimately, a judge will decide who's right.
In a move his legal team calls a gesture of good faith, not an offer to settle, Rodriguez filed a $1.5 million letter of credit with the U.S. District Court in Clarksburg, W.Va.
Rodriguez and his attorneys claim that's the maximum he could owe under his interpretation of the contract -- an amount spelled out in a "maximum liquidated damages provision" that Rodriguez says was in effect when he resigned Dec. 18.
Missouri running back Tony Temple announced he will give up on any further appeals for an extra year of eligibility and get ready for the NFL Draft.
Temple played in one game as a freshman in 2004 in a loss at Nebraska before injuring his Achilles' tendon. Because of the short stint, Missouri coach Gary Pinkel was hopeful Temple might be granted an extra year of eligibility.
The request was rejected this month by the Big 12. Temple has dropped his appeal to the NCAA.
Temple rushed for 1,039 yards in 2007.
Missouri basketball coach Mike Anderson suspended five players indefinitely after a weekend altercation left his top scorer with a broken jaw.
Anderson declined to indicate the reason for the discipline, calling the infractions a violation of team rules. But the move comes as Columbia, Mo., police confirmed that several teammates were with senior guard Stefhon Hannah when he was attacked outside the downtown nightclub Athena early Sunday morning. The injury could cause Hannah to miss the rest of the season.
Hannah, who returned home to Chicago following surgery, senior guard Jason Horton and forwards Marshall Brown, Darryl Butterfield and Leo Lyons were suspended. Each is either a starter or a key reserve.
BOXING
Woods to defend title against Tarver in April
Clinton Woods will defend his IBF light heavyweight title against Antonio Tarver on April 12, then attempt to set up a fight with Joe Calzaghe.
Making his fifth defense, the English fighter will take on the 39-year-old former undisputed champion in Tampa, Fla., a week before Calzaghe faces Bernard Hopkins in Las Vegas in the same weight division.
Tarver won the world title by knocking out Roy Jones Jr. in 2004, but lost it to Bernard Hopkins two years later.
