Marquez injures hand, pulls out of Juarez fight

A hand injury to Juan Manuel Marquez has forced the cancellation of his Sept. 15 WBC super featherweight title defense against Rocky Juarez at the MGM Grand, promoter Golden Boy Promotions announced Friday.

Marquez recently suffered a cut to the hand, which developed an infection. As a result, a decision was made to cancel the entire card.

Refunds are available at the place of purchase.

Also: Junior Witter retained his WBC light welterweight belt by stopping Vivian Harris in the seventh round of a fight in Doncaster, England.

Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will defend his title for the first time today in a unification bout against Pride middleweight and light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson in the main event of UFC 75 in London.

Mirko Cro Cop also will be featured on the card, which will be shown tape-delayed at 9 p.m. on Spike TV (Cox Channel 29).

Jackson, Williams among hall inductees

Phil Jackson learned to coach from Red Holzman, and he practiced the craft on superstars such as Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.

"I've had people say that I'm the luckiest coach that's ever been in the NBA. I probably have to agree with that," Jackson said at the Basketball Hall of Fame's induction in Springfield, Mass.

Jackson won nine NBA championships as a coach -- tying Red Auerbach for the record -- and one as a player.

Jackson was inducted with North Carolina coach Roy Williams; the 1966 NCAA champion Texas Western team; four-time WNBA championship coach Van Chancellor, the longtime women's coach at Mississippi recently hired by Louisiana State; former NBA referee Mendy Rudolph; and international coaches Pedro Ferrandiz of Spain and Mirko Novosel of Yugoslavia.

Williams has a 530-131 record and six Coach of the Year awards, with 15 straight 20-win seasons and 18 consecutive NCAA Tournament berths.
