Top-ranked Ochoa wins third straight LPGA title
Lorena Ochoa won her third straight LPGA title Sunday with a five-stroke victory at the Safeway Classic in Portland, Ore.
Ochoa shot a 71 in the final round for a 12-under 204 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club for her sixth victory of the season.
In-Bee Park (64), Christina Kim (69), Sophie Gustafson (75) and Mhairi McKay (72) all finished at 7-under 209.
The top-ranked Ochoa won the Canadian Women's Open the previous week. Before that, she won the Women's British Open for her first major title.
Also: Denis Watson eagled the second hole of a seven-man playoff to win the Boeing Classic in Snoqualmie, Wash.
Playing No. 18 for the third time in an hour, Watson hit a 3-wood to about 18 feet, then made a 22-foot putt to end the largest playoff in Champions Tour history.
Craig Stadler missed a long eagle putt from the front of the green, and R.W. Eaks missed his 12-footer for eagle.
Colt Knost won the 107th U.S. Amateur Championship in Daly City, Calif., holding off Michael Thompson 2 and 1 to win both of the nation's biggest amateur golf events in two months.
Knost, who played at Southern Methodist, is only the second golfer to win both the Amateur and the U.S. Public Links titles in the same year. Former UNLV standout Ryan Moore did it in 2004.

Colts' Freeney injured, likely to miss next game
Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney bruised his right thigh during the Indianapolis Colts' 37-10 win over Detroit on Saturday night and isn't expected to play Friday at Cincinnati.
Also: Veteran linebacker Chris Claiborne signed with Jacksonville, giving the Jaguars depth at the position after backup Tony Gilbert was lost for the season.

Baze suspended 15 days for whipping horse
Russell Baze, the winningest jockey in thoroughbred racing history, was suspended for 15 days and fined for using his whip on a horse who later died.
Baze, who has 9,826 career wins, was headed to victory Thursday aboard Imperial Eyes at Bay Meadows when the horse took a bad step and broke down. According to a Bay Meadows spokesman, Baze urged Imperial Eyes forward after the horse recovered, using his whip twice.
Imperial Eyes still finished second, but had a broken bone in his left front leg. The gelding was euthanized after going into distress.
Also: After Market defeated Runaway Dancer by three-quarters of a length to win the $250,000 Del Mar Handicap in Del Mar, Calif.
Maryfield nosed out Baroness Thatcher to win the $250,000 Ballerina Stakes and get her first Grade 1 victory at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Gary Russell Jr. dominated Roberto Marroquin, and Raynell Williams outlasted Hylon Williams in the final two matches of the U.S. Olympic boxing trials in Houston.
Russell beat Marroquin 18-14 to win the 119-pound spot on the Olympic team, while Raynell Williams won 24-22 to take the 125-pound berth.
Boyd Duckett won his second Bassmaster event this season, with a two-day total of 30 pounds, 1 ounce to beat Jason Quinn and three-time Angler of the Year Kevin VanDam.
Duckett has earned nearly $850,000, best for an Elite Series fisherman in one season.
American Tyson Gay surged past Asafa Powell to win the 100 meters in 9.85 seconds at the track and field world championships in Osaka, Japan.
James Posey and the Celtics have agreed to terms of a deal that will bring the former Miami Heat forward to Boston.
