Pitchers Wells, Redman will sign with Rockies
The National League champion Colorado Rockies added two pitchers Wednesday, agreeing to one-year contracts with right-hander Kip Wells and left-hander Mark Redman.
Wells, 30, was 7-17 with a 5.70 ERA for the St. Louis Cardinals last season.
Redman, who will turn 34 next month, was signed by the Rockies in late August, going 2-0 with a 3.20 ERA in five games. He was a combined 2-4 with a 7.62 ERA in 11 games for Atlanta and Colorado.
Also: Catcher Michael Barrett and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a $3.5 million, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration.
Barrett can make another $750,000 in performance bonuses. He joined the Padres in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in June.
Left-hander Ron Mahay and the Kansas City Royals reached a preliminary agreement on an $8 million, two-year contract.
The 36-year-old was 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA in 67 innings last season with Texas and Atlanta.

Kansas coach Mangino rewarded by AP voters
Kansas coach Mark Mangino was named The Associated Press Coach of the Year after leading the Jayhawks to their first major bowl game in 38 years.
Kansas won a school-record 11 games and earned a spot in the Bowl Championship Series for the first time. On Jan. 3 in Miami, the Jayhawks will play Virginia Tech in their first major bowl since 1969.
Mangino, 51, received 28 of a possible 58 votes to win the award over Missouri's Gary Pinkel, who had 11 votes.
Also: UNLV picked up two more commitments, including its third three-star prospect.
C.J. Cox (5 feet 11 inches, 190 pounds) of North Garland (Texas) High School is a three-star recruit, according to Scout.com, which also lists him as the nation's No. 46 safety.
Cox is expected to play tailback at UNLV.
The Rebels also picked up a commitment from athlete/return specialist Michael Johnson (5-8, 175) of Rodriguez High in Fairfield, Calif.
Florida assistant coach Doc Holliday was back in Gainesville, one day after interviewing for the head position at West Virginia.
Holliday, Florida's safeties coach and associate head coach, met with West Virginia officials about succeeding Rich Rodriguez.
Holliday is a West Virginia native and was a linebacker for the Mountaineers.

Wranglers shut out Steelheads in Idaho
The Wranglers improved to 16-0-3 in their last 19 games with a 3-0 victory over the Idaho Steelheads in Boise, Idaho.
Goaltender Daniel Manzato improved to 11-0-0 , stopping 22 shots for his second shutout of the season.
Tyler Mosienko had a goal and assist, and Adam Cracknell and Peter Ferraro also scored for Las Vegas (20-2-3).
Also: American cyclist Floyd Landis cannot compete in France until 2009 even if he has his two-year doping ban lifted by the sport's highest court.
The French Anti-Doping Agency said it had imposed its own ban against Landis, preventing him from riding in France until Jan. 31, 2009.
Landis was stripped of his 2006 Tour de France title after testing positive for synthetic testosterone.
Former International Olympic Committee president Juan Antonio Samaranch, 87, was admitted to a hospital in Madrid, Spain, after a dizzy spell and was in stable condition.
Minnesota Timberwolves center Theo Ratliff had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, and his recovery is expected to keep him out for another six weeks.
