Navy upsets Pittsburgh in double overtime
Joey Bullen kicked a 29-yard field goal in the second overtime, Navy then held as Pittsburgh gambled by going for a winning touchdown on fourth down when a chip-shot field goal would have forced another overtime, and the Midshipmen upset the Panthers 48-45 Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.
Pitt (2-4) appeared to be in position to win when Navy (4-2) settled for the field goal and the Panthers got the ball back.
But with Pitt facing fourth-and-goal at the Navy 2, coach Dave Wannstedt went for the win rather than the tie, and freshman quarterback Pat Bostick overthrew tight end Darrell Strong in the end zone.
Also: Oregon State senior receiver Sammie Stroughter will not return this season, and the Beavers plan to seek a medical redshirt for him.
Stroughter, a third-team All-America selection last year, was diagnosed with a bruised kidney after the Arizona State game three weeks ago.
Tavita Pritchard will remain Stanford's starting quarterback this week against Texas Christian after upsetting No. 2 Southern California in his first career start.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said Pritchard would start this week even though T.C. Ostrander had been cleared to play after a seizure caused him to miss the USC game.
David Baker's contract as commissioner of the Arena Football League was extended by three years.

Guard Houston to try comeback with Knicks
Allan Houston is rejoining the New York Knicks, two years after knee pain forced him to walk away.
The Knicks re-signed their former star guard and expect him to begin his attempt to make the team Friday.
Houston, 36, retired two years ago this month after chronic knee pain limited him to 70 games over the previous two seasons.
Also: Washington Wizards center Etan Thomas will undergo open heart surgery today to repair a leak of the aortic valve, a procedure that requires months of recovery time but might not mean the end of his NBA career.
Seattle guard Luke Ridnour broke his nose in the SuperSonics' preseason opener and will have to wear a mask for at least the next month.
Ridnour caught an elbow from Sacramento's Ron Artest in the first quarter Tuesday.
