Oklahoma officials set to meet
Monday about Big 12 affiliation

University of Oklahoma officials are scheduled to discuss its Big 12 affiliation Monday.

The school's board of regents has posted the agenda for Monday's meeting. It's a single paragraph that said the board will consider switching conference affiliation and any legal ramifications of such a move.

The agenda said the regents might discuss the topic behind closed doors and "take any appropriate action."

University president David Boren said this month that Oklahoma had been in contact with multiple conferences and expected a decision within a three-week time frame that would run out next week.

The Big 12 lost Nebraska (Big Ten) and Colorado (Pac-12) in July, leaving it with 10 members.

Also: A longtime assistant to Texas football coach Mack Brown was fired this year for sexual harassment, according to documents obtained by ESPN.

The "Outside the Lines" program obtained documents from the university's investigation of Cleve Bryant. A Texas football department employee who graduated from the school a few years ago filed a sexual harassment complaint against Bryant, the program's director of operations, about a year ago.

Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill was released from a Minneapolis hospital, five days after he was stricken with a seizure on the sideline at the end of the Gophers' loss to New Mexico State.

Team physician Dr. Pat Smith said in a statement that Kill "is in good spirits and eager to get back to work" without restrictions, free to return to work "when he feels up to it."

The doctor would not confirm whether Kill will be at TCF Bank Stadium to coach Minnesota's game on Saturday against Miami of Ohio.

A Notre Dame fan who had a heart attack during last weekend's game at Michigan survived to watch the final touchdowns from a hospital bed, the school said.

Leo Staudacher's heart stopped during the second quarter of Saturday night's game at Michigan Stadium, the school said. The 69-year-old Bay City, Mich., man survived thanks in part to one bystander who performed CPR and others who called for a medical team that used an automated electric defibrillator onsite.

St. John's announced that three freshman basketball players, including former Findlay Prep standout Amir Garrett, did not qualify for the fall semester.

The school said Garrett, Norvel Pelle and JaKarr Sampson will work to become eligible for the spring semester. If so, they will be able to participate in practice Dec. 19.

Johnson takes one-shot lead
on 16-year-old at LPGA Classic

Jennifer Johnson shot a career-best 7-under-par 65 to take the first-round lead over teenager Lexi Thompson in the Navistar LPGA Classic in Prattville, Ala.

Johnson was 6 under on the back nine on the Senator course at the Robert Trent Jones Trail's Capitol Hill complex. She eagled the par-4, 389-yard 15th hole and had birdies on Nos. 10, 13, 17 and 18.

Thompson, 16, is one stroke back after a 6-under 66, with Becky Morgan and Alison Walshe another shot behind. There is a seven-way tie for fifth at 4 under that includes Yani Tseng, the world's No. 1 player.

Also: Britain and Ireland took a 4-1 lead on Continental Europe after the opening fourballs in the Vivendi Seve Trophy competition in Saint-Nom-la-Breteche, France.

Anders Hansen and Francesco Molinari won the only point for Europe with a single-hole victory over Mark Foster and Lee Westwood.

Scott Jamieson and Ross Fisher were the standout performers for Britain and Ireland, beating Peter Hanson and Raphael Jacquelin, 6 and 4. Also, Robert Rock and Ian Poulter defeated Thomas Bjorn and Alexander Noren, and Darren Clarke and David Horsey beat Nicolas Colsaerts and Matteo Manassero.

Former Washington Wizards basketball player Javaris Crittenton was returned to Atlanta from Los Angeles to face a murder charge, the Fulton County, Ga., sheriff's office said.

Crittenton was brought back to Georgia by the department's fugitive unit and will be held at the county jail.

Authorities said Crittenton will face the charge in the death of 22-year-old Julian Jones, a mother of four who was hit by gunfire during a drive-by shooting. Police said the shots were aimed at someone walking with her. Crittenton denies involvement.

Former Ohio State and NFL quarterback Art Schlichter pleaded guilty to state theft charges linked to a sports ticket-fraud scheme and apologized to a woman who lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in the plot.

In a deal worked out with state and federal prosecutors in Ohio, Schlichter pleaded guilty to 13 counts and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He also was ordered to pay more than $800,000 in restitution, although a prosecutor conceded victims were likely to never see the money.
