Baseball team battles back
for victory over Sacred Heart
The UNLV baseball team rallied from a 7-1 deficit to beat Sacred Heart 10-9 on Sunday at Wilson Stadium.
In the fifth inning, the Rebels (22-12) strung together three straight run-scoring hits from Scott Dysinger, Trent Cook and Brandon Bayardi to make it 7-5, though the Pioneers got one run back in the top of the sixth.
Rance Roundy led off the bottom of the eighth with a home run, Dysinger hit a two-run single to tie it, and a balk scored Trevor Kirk to put UNLV up 9-8. Cook then singled in Dysinger to cap the rally.
Also: The UNLV women's tennis team routed New Mexico 6-1 in Albuquerque, N.M.
UNLV (16-4, 5-0 Mountain West Conference) won all three doubles matches for the first point, then took five of six in singles play. Aleksandra Josifoska (No. 2), Adrienn Hidvegi (No. 4), Jana Albers (No. 5) and Anna Maskaljun (No. 6) all won in straight sets.
The UNLV men's golf team shot 5-under 279 in the final round to take third at the Thunderbird Invitational with a 5-over 857 total in Tempe, Ariz. Southern California won at 15-under 837, followed by San Diego State at 1-under 851.
Derek Ernst paced the Rebels, tying for 12th at even-par 213 after a final-round 71. San Diego State's J.J. Spaun won at 7-under 206.
The UNLV softball team lost to New Mexico 2-1 in Mountain West Conference action in Albuquerque, N.M. The Rebels (20-14, 2-1 MWC), who had beaten the Lobos 13 straight times, got their lone run on a Kylie Wagner homer in the fourth inning.
Emily Blok led the UNLV track and field team Saturday at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles, taking second in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200. She also helped the 4x100 relay team take second.
At the Pomona Pitzer Invite in Claremont, Calif., Amanda Bingson won the hammer throw (223 feet, 4 inches), followed by Chelsea Cassulo. Deja Edwards was second in the triple jump.

Wozniacki rolls past Vesnina
to claim Family Circle Cup
Top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki defeated unseeded Elena Vesnina 6-2, 6-3 to take the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, S.C., capturing her third title this season.
Wozniacki finished off a strong week in her first clay-court tournament of the season. She lost only one set, in the quarterfinals to Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, and held off Jelena Jankovic in the semis.
Also: Ryan Sweeting edged Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-4 7-6 (3) to win the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship in Houston for his first ATP World Tour title.
The American became the fifth first-time winner on the ATP tour this year and the first U.S. Clay Court wild-card champion since Mardy Fish in 2006.

Report: Judge to force owners, players to mediate NFL lockout
The judge who will rule on the NFL players' request to lift the lockout imposed by the owners told both sides she'll impose forced mediation early this week, according to ESPN.com.
U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson told the NFL and its players of her intentions, according to the report Sunday night, which cited "sources familiar with the situation."
Attorneys for both sides held a conference call Friday to discuss mediation with Nelson. The NFL wants to resume negotiations before a federal mediator in Washington, while the players prefer to remain in Nelson's court.
ESPN.com reported that Nelson said during the one-hour conference call that she would work on a solution over the weekend and announce her decision early this week.
Also: American investor Stan Kroenke is set to take control of English Premier League soccer club Arsenal and end the long-running uncertainty about the ownership, according to a supporters group.
Kroenke, who also owns the NBA's Denver Nuggets and the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, is already Arsenal's largest shareholder and a director.
Arsenal gave its Premier League title hopes a much-needed boost by beating host Blackpool 3-1 to keep pace with leader Manchester United.
The Gunners trail United by seven points, but that gap would be reduced to a point by beating the 18-time champions and also winning their game in hand.
Josiah Middaugh and Melanie McQuaid won the pro divisions of the XTERRA West Championship Triathlon at Lake Las Vegas. Middaugh, of Vail, Colo., finished the 1-mile swim, 18-mile mountain bike ride and 7-mile trail run in 2 hours, 13 minutes, 39 seconds. McQuaid, from Victoria, British Columbia, finished in 2:32:29.
Caster Semenya powered to an impressive double at the South African track and field championships in Durban, South Africa, winning the women's 800 meters and 1,500 meters in a buildup to defending her 800 title at the world championships.
Two University of Florida basketball players were arrested on felony burglary charges for allegedly breaking into a car. Sophomore Erik Murphy and freshman Cody Larson, reserves expected to play significant roles next season, are free on bond after being arrested early Sunday.
Georgia senior offensive tackle Trinton Sturdivant sustained his third major knee injury, possibly keeping him out for the 2011 season and ending his college career.
