Former Rebel Hoffman among seven tied for Texas Open lead
Former UNLV golfer Charley Hoffman was in a rare seven-way tie for the lead Friday after two rounds of the PGA Tour's Texas Open in San Antonio.
Hoffman shot a 1-over-par 73 and is at 3-under 141. He is tied with Rich Beem (70), Kevin Chappell (73), Geoff Ogilvy (72), Brandt Snedeker (72), Brendan Steele (72) and Kevin Sutherland (70).
Former Rebels standout and defending champion Adam Scott (74) and Las Vegas resident Dean Wilson (72) are in a group of four at 2 under.
The seven-way logjam is tied for the second-most crowded leaderboard on the PGA Tour after 36 holes since 1970. Strong winds prevented anyone from breaking out, and Friday's average round of 75.289 was the highest on the tour since the 2008 British Open.
Also: Russ Cochran shot a 7-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead over John Cook and Jay Don Blake after the first round of the Champions Tour's Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am in Lutz, Fla. Cochran has finished in the top 10 in four of his five Champions Tour events this season and is fifth in the Charles Schwab Cup standings.
Rory McIlroy, who led last week's Masters for 63 holes before collapsing in the final nine holes, shot an 8-under 64 to grab a share of the lead with Alexander Noren after the rain-shortened second round of the PGA European's Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They are at 11-under 133.
