Roundy leads UNLV baseball
to road victory over UNR

Rance Roundy went 4-for-5 with four RBIs to lead the UNLV baseball team over UNR 10-6 on Saturday in Reno.

The Rebels (10-2) jumped to a 6-1 lead after three innings, fueled by a two-run double from Roundy in the first inning and a two-run homer from Brandon Bayardi in the second. Roundy had another two-run double in the seventh to cap UNLV's scoring.

Bayardi finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Also: The UNLV softball team won twice in its Eller Media Stadium Classic, routing Bradley 7-1 and notching a 10-1, run-rule victory over Kansas.

Tayler Van Acker and Ashli Holland each totaled four hits for UNLV (10-7), and Rayna Bradshaw went 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Stefany Valentino was 3-for-7 on the day, with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Rebels starter Kylie Wagner went the distance against Bradley, and Amanda Oliveto got a five-inning complete game against the Jayhawks.

The UNLV men's tennis team lost to Nebraska 4-3 in Denver.

Nebraska won two of the three singles matches for the first point, and the two teams split the six singles matches. Tamas Batyi (No. 3), Rene Ruegamer (No. 4) and Alex Bull (No. 5) netted singles wins for the Rebels (11-6).

The UNLV women's tennis team lost to Florida International 4-3 in Fresno, Calif., ending a six-match win streak for the Rebels (9-2).

UNLV took the first point, winning two of three doubles matches, but got just two singles victories -- from Aleksandra Josifoska (No. 2) and Anna Maskaljun (No. 6).

Zadia Bryant and Kelsey Williamson paced the UNLV track and field team on the final day of the UNLV Classic. Bryant took first in the 200-meter dash, and Williamson won the 400.

The College of Southern Nevada baseball team was swept in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader with No. 11 Salt Lake Community College, losing 2-1 and 3-0 in West Jordan, Utah.

In the opener, Salt Lake won on Kennedy Kinkade's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning off CSN reliever Burke Seifrit. CSN, ranked 17th, got its run when Duncan Satherlie scored on an error.

The Coyotes (11-9, 0-4 Scenic West) managed just three hits in the second game, loading the bases with two outs in the seventh but failing to push across a run.

The CSN softball team beat Colorado Northwestern 21-0 and 11-3 in a Scenic West doubleheader at the Russell Road Recreation Complex.

Alicia Firelein went 4-for-6 on the day, with two home runs and seven RBIs

In the opener, A.J. Woodward tied the school single-season record with her 13th homer, and Monet Ormsby threw a three-hitter for the Coyotes (14-16, 7-9).

Wranglers' third-period rally
fuels victory over Steelheads

Aaron Power had a hat trick, and the Wranglers outscored the Idaho Steelheads 3-0 in the third period to post a 6-5 ECHL victory in Boise, Idaho.

Chris Francis scored the first two goals of the rally for Las Vegas (34-19-5) to tie the game at 5, and Josh Lunden netted the game winner with 3 minutes, 23 seconds remaining. Power scored the Wranglers' first three goals.

Also: Lindsey Vonn won her fourth consecutive World Cup downhill season championship by finishing second to Anja Paerson, who earned her first victory in a frustrating season.

It's the second discipline title for Vonn this season. A day earlier in Tarvisio, Italy, she retained her super-combined trophy.

Paerson finished in 1 minute, 26.91 seconds. Vonn finished 0.73 behind and has an insurmountable 143-point lead in the downhill standings over German rival Maria Riesch, who finished sixth but remains the overall leader.

Top-seeded Jankovic breezes
to final in Monterrey Open

Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic advanced to the Monterrey Open final, beating Polona Hercog 6-3, 6-2 in Monterrey, Mexico. The former No. 1-ranked Jankovic needed just over an hour to win the match.

Jankovic, ranked sixth, will face second-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Gisela Dulko

Also: Jelena Dokic beat Michaella Krajicek 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the Malaysian Open finals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Dokic drifted away from the WTA Tour from 2004 to 2008. She's ranked 91st after a high of No. 4, and reached her first semifinal in seven years.

Fifth-seeded Lucie Safarova beat fourth-seeded Jarmila Groth 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the other semifinal.

Sabbatini fires 66 to take lead
in PGA Tour's Honda Classic

Rory Sabbatini had another good round with his new putter, shooting 4-under-par 66 to take a five-stroke lead at the PGA Tour's Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Sabbatini posted a 9-under 201 total. Y.E. Yang, the 2009 winner, birdied the last two holes for a 67 and moved into a tie for second with Jerry Kelly (68).

Gary Woodland shot 68 and was fourth, six shots behind. Second-round leader Kyle Stanley had a 74 to drop seven strokes back.

Also: Michael Phelps beat Ryan Lochte in the 200-meter individual medley at the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

The two-time defending Olympic gold medalist in the event finished in 1 minute, 56.88 seconds, the best time in the world this season. Lochte, who holds the world record in the event, finished in 1:59.19.

The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race got under way, with fans cheering on their favorite mushers and dog teams at the race's ceremonial start in Anchorage.

Sixty-two teams are entered in the 2011 Iditarod, which at 1,150 miles is the world's longest sled dog race. Defending champion Lance Mackey is trying for his fifth consecutive Iditarod win.

Arsenal stalled in its pursuit of English Premier League leader Manchester United by drawing 0-0 with Sunderland in London. Third-place Manchester City defeated Wigan, 1-0.

United has played the same number of games as second-place Arsenal and can go six points in front if it beats Liverpool on the road today.

Fennville (Mich.) High School said it will participate in a playoff game Monday, four days after its star boys basketball player hit a winning shot to cap an undefeated regular season, then collapsed and died from a heart ailment.

Spokeswoman Holly McCaw said the decision was made after officials talked to the family of 16-year-old Wes Leonard.
