Dufner continues roll, grabs two-stroke lead in Colonial

Jason Dufner had a bogey-free 6-under-par 64 on another windy day Friday to take a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas. He is at 11-under 129.

A week after winning the Byron Nelson Championship, Dufner took the lead from Zach Johnson (67). The only player to win both PGA Tour events in the Dallas-Fort Worth market in the same year was Ben Hogan in 1946. Both of Dufner's tour victories have come in his previous three starts, and he has led or shared the lead after 11 of his past 34 rounds.

Bo Van Pelt (64) and Tommy Gainey (67) were tied for third at 133. Defending champion David Toms finished at 145 and missed the cut.

Also: Hale Irwin shot his age with a 5-under 66, finishing the second round of the Senior PGA Championship in Benton Harbor, Mich., two shots behind leaders Roger Chapman and John Cook.

Cook also had a 66 to match Chapman (67) at 7-under 135. Michael Allen broke the Harbor Shores course record with a 64, after a first-round 77.

Top-ranked Rory McIlroy shot a second-round 7-over 79 - with seven bogeys and two double bogeys - to finish at 9-over 153 and miss the cut at the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England.

James Morrison shot 64 to take a four-shot lead over Luke Donald (68) and first-round co-leader David Drysdale (70). Morrison is at 12-under 132.

Alabama won its first women's golf title, holding off two-time champ Southern California by one stroke on the 72nd hole at the NCAA Division I championship in Franklin, Tenn. Alabama finished at 6-over 294 in the fourth round for a 19-over 1,171 total.

Oklahoma's Chirapat Jao-Javanil won the individual title by four strokes, closing with a 2-under 70 to finish at 6-under 282.

Knicks don't pursue Jackson, give Woodson coaching job

Mike Woodson will return as the New York Knicks' coach after leading them to their first playoff victory in 11 years.

The Knicks removed the interim tag and announced they had given Woodson a multiyear contract extension, rewarding him for a terrific finish to what had been a turbulent season. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Woodson led the Knicks to an 18-6 record after replacing Mike D'Antoni on March 14, when they were 18-24. New York lost 4-1 to Miami in the first round, snapping an NBA-record 13-game postseason losing streak by winning Game 4 for their first victory since 2001.

There was speculation that Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan would open one of the league's biggest checkbooks to go after Phil Jackson, the 11-time champion coach and former Knicks player who sat out the 2011-12 season after retiring from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Djokovic could meet Federer in semifinals of French Open

Novak Djokovic's bid to win a fourth consecutive Grand Slam championship - and first at the French Open - might require a semifinal victory over Roger Federer. The draw set them up to meet in Paris at the same stage as last year, when Federer beat Djokovic in four epic sets to end the Serb's 43-match winning streak that dated to December 2010.

That was Djokovic's last loss at a major tournament: Since then, he won the titles at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the Australian Open. He's trying to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win four Grand Slam trophies in a row.

The highlight of the women's quarterfinals could be Serena Williams against Maria Sharapova. Williams owns 13 major titles, and Sharapova is hoping to complete a career Grand Slam with her first French Open title.

Also: David Beckham no longer is Major League Soccer's highest-paid player after his salary was cut nearly 40 percent in his new contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The former England captain has a base salary of $3 million this year and guaranteed compensation of $4 million, according to figures released by the MLS Players Union.

New York's Thierry Henry became the league's highest-paid player, with a base salary of $5 million and total compensation of $5.6 million.

The charity for troubled youths started by Jerry Sandusky more than three decades ago - and through which the retired Penn State assistant football coach met the boys he is charged with sexually abusing - said it is seeking court approval to shut down and transfer its programs to a Texas-based youth ministry that serves abused and neglected children.

The Second Mile said it has been financially crippled by the child sex-abuse scandal and concluded after a six-month internal review that it had no other option but to close.

Former major league player Vance Law was fired as Brigham Young's baseball coach after 13 seasons. Law, who played at BYU in the mid-1970s, was 397-347-2 with the Cougars, including 22-26 this season.
