Kansas suspends guard Little after arrest following fight

No. 3 Kansas suspended guard Mario Little indefinitely Thursday after he was arrested on charges of battery, criminal damage and criminal trespassing following a pre-dawn fight with his girlfriend and others.

Coach Bill Self announced the suspension of the 6-foot-6-inch guard, who apologized and said he felt "awful" about the incident.

"Mario remains a member of our team while we work through this process," Self said. "But we have suspended him indefinitely from competition while we gather the facts of this incident. Mario exercised very poor judgment in his handling of a situation. We're disappointed in his behavior; it's unfortunate that our university, our program and his teammates all have to deal with this negative issue."

Police were called to a Lawrence, Kan., apartment complex at 2:45 a.m. They said the 22-year-old senior had gone to his girlfriend's apartment and got into a fight with a 19-year-old man who was there.

Also: Forward Drew Gordon, a transfer from UCLA, will make his debut for New Mexico on Sunday against The Citadel.

New Mexico had submitted a waiver to NCAA officials, seeking to have Gordon declared eligible in time for today's game against Longwood. The NCAA requires any transfer athlete to sit out a calendar year.

The 6-9 Gordon said his appeal was based on UCLA having a quarterly academic schedule, rather than the semester system used at New Mexico.

Twelve of about 30 autographed NHL jerseys stolen from Pat Burns' widow within hours of his funeral have been returned to the family.

Montreal police said agents from a security company found the sweaters and gave them to a journalist, who returned the jerseys -- destined for a charity auction -- to the late NHL coach's family.

Burns barely had been laid to rest Nov. 29 when thieves smashed into his widow's SUV and stole personal belongings. Family photos, Burns' credit cards and his watch still are missing.
