American men no longer ranked among top 10

No American player is in the top 10 for the first time since the men's tennis computer rankings began in 1973.

Andy Roddick dropped from No. 9 to No. 11 in the ATP rankings issued Monday.

U.S. men have gone 27 Grand Slam tournaments without a title. Roddick was the last American to win a major title, at the 2003 U.S. Open.

Still ranked No. 1 is French Open and Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard has a lead of nearly 4,000 points over Novak Djokovic. Roger Federer remains at No. 3.

New Mexico coach boots two players from team

New Mexico coach Mike Locksley said defensive backs Nathan Enriquez and A.J. Williams were dismissed from the team for an undisclosed rules violation.

Enriquez played in 11 games as a freshman in 2009 and made six starts. He had 23 tackles, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. Williams was a junior walk-on.

Also: Running back Delone Carter is returning to Syracuse.

Carter was suspended last semester and did not participate in spring practice. He was suspended when he was charged with misdemeanor assault after a snowball-throwing incident.

Carter led Syracuse last season with 1,021 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns.

The Texas appeals court handling former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach's lawsuit against the university over his 2009 firing has set Oct. 7 for oral arguments.

The school is appealing a judge's ruling that the university waived its right to sovereign immunity in Leach's breach of conduct claim.

After missing all of last season fighting cancer, Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich missed the Eagles' opening practice on Monday.

Herzlich was named the Atlantic Coast Conference defensive player of the year in 2008. But in May of 2009 he announced he would miss the upcoming season after being diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer found in bone or soft tissue.

Arbitrator: NHL correctly voided Kovalchuk deal

Ilya Kovalchuk is back on the free-agent market.

An arbitrator ruled that the NHL acted correctly in voiding Kovalchuk's landmark $102 million contract with the New Jersey Devils.

The league had rejected the 17-year contract, saying the longest deal in league history violated its salary cap.

Also: Mountain Ridge fell to 0-3 in pool play of the Little League Baseball West Regional in San Bernardino, Calif., with a 4-3 loss to Waipahu, Hawaii. Alexander Marco homered for Mountain Ridge, and Jeff Griffith had two of the team's four hits.

U.S. men's soccer coach Bob Bradley will resume conversations with the U.S. Soccer Federation about his future following tonight's exhibition against Brazil at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

Rachel Rohanna, an all-Big Ten player at Ohio State, set a U.S. Women's Amateur record with a 7-under 65 at Charlotte, N.C.

Sprint Cup driver Jeff Gordon is a father again, noting on his website that Leo Benjamin Gordon was born Monday. Gordon and wife Ingrid also have a 3-year-old daughter.

UNLV women's basketball assistant Kari Duperron resigned to take a similar role at Washington, Lady Rebels coach Kathy Olivier announced.

Chad Kreuter was fired as Southern California baseball coach by new athletic director Pat Haden.
