Heavy rain that began with 100 of the 156 golfers still to begin or complete the second round caused play to be suspended in the U.S. Women's Open at Oakmont, Pa.

Play is scheduled to resume this morning at Oakmont Country Club, with the third round to begin with threesomes teeing off in the afternoon. Normally, golfers play in pairs the final two rounds.

Sophie Gustafson was the leader on the course at even par when play was halted, but she had completed only one hole of the second round. Cristie Kerr and first-round leader Brittany Lang were the clubhouse leaders at 1-over 143. Kerr shot par 71, and Lang had a 3-over 74.

Darren Clarke shot 4-under 67 to take a four-shot lead after the second round of the Scottish Open at Luss, Scotland. He is at 10-under 132.

Phil Mickelson, who needed to finish second to overtake Tiger Woods for No. 1 in the world ranking, missed the cut by one shot. He took a quintuple bogey on the 18th hole to finish with a 74 and 145 total.
