Also: Billy Joe Tolliver likes to say that he and Rick Rhoden have combined to win half of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championships that have been played at Lake Tahoe the past 20 years.
The wisecracking, former NFL quarterback doesn't always mention that two of those trophies belong to him and eight to the former all-star pitcher.
Rhoden will try to make it three in a row when 82 sports and entertainment stars tee off today at Edgewood Golf Course in Stateline.
Marquee pairings include Michael Jordan, Tony Romo and Ray Allen teeing off at 10:10 a.m. They start after an all-quarterback group of Troy Aikman, John Elway and Aaron Rogers, which follows three Cy Young winners in John Smoltz, Greg Maddux and Brett Saberhagen.
Matt Bettencourt shot a 6-under-par 66 after the first round of the Reno-Tahoe Open for a one-stroke lead over PGA Tour veteran Chris DiMarco.
Will MacKenzie, the 2006 Reno champ, is tied with Craig Bowden another stroke back at 4-under 68 at Montreux Golf & Country Club on the edge of the Sierra Nevada. A group of more than a dozen golfers at 3-under 69 includes Steve Elkington, Woody Austin, Mark Hensby and former UNLV star Chad Campbell.

MLS has no plan to allow 'real soccer hero' Donovan to leave
Major League Soccer plans to keep Landon Donovan. MLS commissioner Don Garber said the league has no intention of accepting transfer offers for the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder.
"He's become a real soccer hero," Garber said after a news conference to announce French star Thierry Henry's signing with the New York Red Bulls. "MLS needs soccer heroes, and we have a great American soccer hero playing for us in LA, holding the torch for the sport in our country, and that's very important. I don't believe that it's something we can do without."
Henry is retiring from the French national team.
The 32-year-old forward, a member of France's 1998 world championship and 2000 European champion teams, said he will not emulate England's David Beckham and commute between the U.S. and Europe.
"I always want to be here 100 percent and fully committed to this cause and the organization," Henry said.
