Seton Hall forward Pope collapses during workout

Seton Hall forward Herb Pope has reportedly been taken to a hospital after collapsing during an afternoon workout at the school.

The Star-Ledger of Newark reported that Pope collapsed Wednesday and was rushed to Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

Sports information director Matt Sweeney told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Wednesday night "that a student-athlete was taken to a hospital."

Pope announced he was entering the NBA Draft. But he did not hire an agent, leaving open the possibility he might return next season to play for new coach Kevin Willard.

Also: UNR point guard London Giles is transferring after two seasons with the team. Giles said the move is necessary because of an "unforeseen family emergency" and that he hopes to find a school closer to his home in Dallas.

The 6-foot-3-inch reserve averaged a little more than a point per game.

Nadal drops Kohlschreiber in Rome Masters opener

Rafael Nadal began his quest for a fifth Rome Masters title with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber.

After withdrawing from last week's Barcelona Open, Nadal was fresh and dictated play with his usual combination of heavy topspin and baseline winners.

American John Isner lost to Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci 7-6 (7), 7-5, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga topped Viktor Troicki 6-2, 6-3, and Ivan Ljubicic beat Nicolas Almagro, 7-5, 7-6 (3).

Also: The UNLV men's tennis match against New Mexico in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championships was postponed because of high winds at the Fertitta Tennis complex. The Rebels will face the Lobos at 9 a.m. today.

The UNLV women's team had its match against Air Force pushed back to 4 p.m. today.

The UNLV women's tennis team had six players gain All-MWC honors, with Kristina Nedeltcheva named to the first team in singles and doubles.

Jana Albers, Nives Pavlovic and Adrienn Hidvegi also made the squad in singles, with Albers joining Nedeltcheva in doubles, along with the Rebels' No. 2 doubles unit of Anna Maskaljun and Alisa Razina.

Luca Barlocchi and Mehdi Bouras made the men's All-MWC team in singles and doubles.

U.S. women's gymnasts given bronze from 2000 Olympics

China was stripped of a bronze medal from the 2000 Sydney Olympics for fielding an underage women's gymnast. The medal was given to the U.S.

The International Olympic Committee acted after investigations by the sport's governing body determined that Dong Fangxiao was 14 at the 2000 Games. Gymnasts must turn 16 during the Olympic year to be eligible.

Also: NASCAR docked Brad Keselowski 50 points in the Nationwide Series because his car failed inspection after his win at Talladega Superspeedway.

The penalties were 25 points each for an unapproved left-front spring and an unapproved right-front shock.

Inter Milan reached the European Champions League final for the first time in 38 years despite losing 1-0 to defending champion and host Barcelona. Inter Milan advanced by virtue of a 3-2 total-goals advantage in the home-and-home series and will face Bayern Munich on May 22 in Madrid.

The California Horse Racing Board suspended trainer Jeff Mullins for 30 days and fined him $2,500 for a drug violation that occurred in 2008.
