Kanaan ends drought, captures Iowa 250 win
Tony Kanaan overtook Helio Castroneves with 10 laps left and held on to win the Iowa 250 on Sunday in Newton, Iowa.
It was the first win since 2008 for Kanaan.
Kanaan had crashed in each of his first three starts at Iowa, but he zipped past Castroneves on lap 240 and cruised to victory by over four seconds.
Danica Patrick finished 10th.
Also: John Force regained the points lead with his NHRA-record 130th career win, taking the Funny Car title at Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn.
In the final, Force easily topped Tim Wilkerson with a 4.317-second pass at 285.59 mph to Wilkersons 12.365 at 31.80.
Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel) and Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) won their divisions.

ShopRite win will lift Miyazato to LPGA No. 1
Japans Ai Miyazato shot 7-under 64 to post a two-stroke victory at the $1.5 million ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway Township, N.J.
The 25-year-old Miyazato is guaranteed to take over the No. 1 spot in todays rankings after her fourth victory of the season.
Second-round leader M.J. Hur finished second, two shots behind Miyazato. Fellow South Korean Inbee Park, a former Bishop Gorman High School standout and the 2008 U.S. Womens Open champion, shot 67 to take third at 12-under 201.
Also: Chris Kirk shot a 6-under 64 to win the Fort Smith Classic at Fort Smith, Ark.
John Daly (69) finished tied for 22nd at 8 under in his first Nationwide event since 1991.
Martin Wiegele of Austria captured his first European PGA Tour title, shooting 3-under 68 to win the Saint-Omer Open in Saint-Omer, France.
Wiegele finished two shots ahead of a group of five players after making four birdies with only one bogey to finish at 7-under 277.

Armstrong takes second in Tour de France tuneup
Lance Armstrong wrapped up his Tour de France preparations on a high note, finishing second overall in the Tour of Switzerland, 12 seconds behind Frank Schleck of Luxembourg.
The seven-time Tour de France champion was seventh overall going into the stage, but surged into contention by placing 11th in the 16.6-mile time trial around Liestal, Switzerland, finishing in 33 minutes, 30 seconds to trail stage winner Tony Martin of Germany by 1:09.
Also: Police said an Ohio State football recruit remains in critical condition a day after he was shot multiple times and a teenage girl was killed at a house in Youngstown, Ohio.
Police said they have a suspect in Saturdays shooting of Jamel Turner.

Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace has signed a multiyear contract extension. The Grizzlies have the 12th, 25th and 28th picks in the first round of Thursdays draft.
A federal judge is being asked to decide whether cheerleading can be counted as a sport by schools looking for ways to meet gender-equity requirements.
The issue is part of a lawsuit filed by five members of the volleyball team at Quinnipiac University and coach Robin Sparks last year after the school decided in a budgetary move to eliminate womens volleyball in favor of a competitive cheer squad.
The case goes to court today in Hartford, Conn.
