Jets owner keeps focus on election

For an NFL team to have a successful season, everyone in the organization needs to be on the same page.
From the owner's box to the interns, the focus needs to be on what it will take to win the Super Bowl.
Maybe that explains why the Jets are struggling so badly.
Tim Tebow is planning his next sermon, Rex Ryan is concerned with not popping the staples in his stomach and what the cheerleaders would look like with their shoes off, and Mark Sanchez is too busy with Eva Longoria to worry about getting the ball near his receivers.
Then there's owner Woody Johnson.
He doesn't seem concerned about the debacle that his team has become on the field. In fact, he admits winning games isn't his biggest concern.
Johnson is a devout Republican and an outspoken Mitt Romney backer. The Shutdown Corner blog on Yahoo! notes he is the New York campaign chair and has donated more than $100,000 to party candidates since 2009.
He appeared on the Bloomberg TV program "Market Makers" on Monday and was asked whether his bigger priority was a winning season for the Jets or Romney winning the election, and he didn't hesitate in answering.
"Well, I think you always have to put country first," he said. "So I think it's very, very important that not only for us but particularly for our kids and grandkids that this election come off with Mitt Romney and (Paul) Ryan as president and vice president."
Although political pollsters still have the presidential race close going into tonight's debate, oddsmakers put Johnson on the short end of both propositions.
Romney is nearly a 4-1 underdog at one offshore book, and the Jets are more than a touchdown 'dog against the Houston Texans this week and are in danger of falling to 2-3 with no easy games in sight.
Johnson's backup quarterback might be the solution to both problems. Tebow could step in for Sanchez under center and start praying for an election miracle.
■ THE KING OF HEROIN - A 19-year-old drug dealer in Upper Darby, Pa., was arrested for selling 140 bags of heroin to an undercover police officer.
The story wouldn't have made national news except for the unusual marking on each bag.
According to the Philadelphia Daily News, each of the bags sold by Marlon Guess featured a silhouette of LeBron James dunking a basketball and James' name stamped underneath.
The heroin inside the packets also was unique. It would provide users a most amazing high for 36 minutes and then go away for the next 12.
■ SO SORRY - NBA reporter and radio host Ric Bucher spoke to new Los Angeles Clippers forward Lamar Odom, who apparently feels bad for how poorly he performed for the Dallas Mavericks last season.
"Lamar Odom, unprompted, told me he'd like to apologize to Mark Cuban and Mavs fans for not being himself. Felt it was beyond his power," Bucher tweeted.
That's all well and good.
But what about the apology he owes the nation for bringing more fame to Khloe Kardashian?
