Lady Rebels’ five-game win streak ends in Fresno

UNLV’s five-game winning streak came to an end Saturday in a 70-52 loss to Fresno State in a Mountain West women’s basketball game at Fresno, Calif.

The Lady Rebels (8-11, 5-2 MW), now tied for third in the conference, trailed 41-18 at halftime after shooting 28 percent (7-for-25) from the field in the first 20 minutes. They finished 18-for-54 (33.3).

The Bulldogs (12-7, 6-2) led by as many as 33 points, 57-24, in the second half. UNLV trailed 68-36 before ending the game on a 16-2 run.

Danielle Miller scored 12 points and Mia Bell 10 for the Lady Rebels, and Aley Rohde had eight points and nine rebounds.

“Fresno State took their intensity to another level,” UNLV coach Kathy Olivier said. “They played really fast, and we looked like we were on our heels a little, and we can’t have that if we want to come out and get a win on the road.

“One of our keys was to make our bunnies, and we missed some good opportunities early. I liked that we gave all we had and kept fighting the whole game. We allowed too many transition points, and we know it’s back to the drawing board to try to come up with another winning streak.”
