Lake Mead star Yamzon co-MVP of Division III Southern League
Lake Mead’s Justin Yamzon had a knee injury cut short his senior basketball season.
But that didn’t stop the high-scoring guard from sharing the Division III Southern League’s top individual honor.
Yamzon, who averaged 30.0 points, shared the league’s Most Valuable Player award with Lincoln County’s Chandler Katschke. Katschke averaged 23.1 points and 13.4 rebounds in the league season in helping the Lynx to the league title.
Lincoln County’s Matt Cameron was the Coach of the Year.
■ GATORADE SOCCER AWARDS — Gatorade named Green Valley’s Nicole Westover and Liberty’s Danny Musovski the Nevada Soccer Players of the Year.
Westover had six goals and two assists and anchored a defense that allowed two goals and advanced to the Division I girls state title game.
Musovski had 43 goals and nine assists in helping Liberty to the Sunrise Region boys quarterfinals.
■ BOWLING TOURNEY — The state bowling tournaments are over, but local high school bowlers will represent their schools one more time at the MVP Tournament, which begins at 2:15 p.m. today at Orleans Bowling Center.
The individual tournament features 74 boys and 72 girls from 33 schools.
The top six finishers plus the bowler with the highest game that did not make the finals will share $4,000 in scholarship money that was donated to the tournament.
