Late 3-pointer propels Silverado boys
Joe Spero hit a 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds remaining to give Silverado's boys basketball team a 69-66 win over visiting Coronado on Wednesday.
The win forced a three-way tie atop the Southeast Division. Liberty, Foothill and Silverado all are 11-2 with one game remaining. Silverado will play at Foothill on Friday, and Liberty will play at Green Valley.
Spero finished with 25 points, hitting five 3-pointers, to lead the Skyhawks. Wade Collie added 13 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.
Cory Ford led Coronado with 27 points.
• Liberty 64, Foothill 56 -- At Liberty, Justin King had 22 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Patriots past the Falcons.
Micah Shepard led Foothill with 14 points.
• Palo Verde 68, Centennial 61 -- At Centennial, David Rawlinson scored 21 points as the Panthers outlasted the Bulldogs.
Adam Young scored 17 points to lead Centennial.
• Basic 51, Del Sol 50 -- At Del Sol, James Holmes and Josh Ross each scored 14 points as the Wolves nipped the Dragons.
Del Sol missed two potential game-winning shots in the last 20 seconds. Maurice Lawson scored 14 points and Jeff Coon 13 for Del Sol.
• Mojave 68, Shadow Ridge 54 -- At Shadow Ridge, Darian Norris scored 23 points and Anthony Marshall 22 as the Rattlers won their 20th straight game.
Kevin James added 12 points and 17 rebounds for Mojave. Zach Hafen led the Mustangs with 21 points.
• Cimarron 70, Arbor View 55 -- At Arbor View, Brayden Quackenbush hit six 3-pointers and scored 26 points as the Spartans coasted past the Aggies.
Andre Vickers added 14 points for Cimarron. Darington Banks scored 18 points to lead Arbor View.
• Green Valley 61, Tech 42 -- At Green Valley, Josh McCarver scored 18 points and Glen Bewley 13 as the Gators downed the Roadrunners.
Brandon Tiffany scored 23 points for Tech.
• Cheyenne 59, Legacy 51 -- At Cheyenne, Ricky Henry scored 16 points as the Desert Shields held off the Longhorns.
Christian Lightbourne and Demario Harris each added 10 points for Cheyenne. John Kirvin scored 25 for Legacy.
GIRLS
• Mojave 61, Shadow Ridge 52 -- At Shadow Ridge, Chelsea Hopkins made 10 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Rattlers beat the Mustangs.
Hopkins had 29 points for Mojave, which led 44-43 entering the fourth quarter.
• Silverado 46, Coronado 38 -- At Silverado, Shea Collins had 15 points and was 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to lead the Skyhawks.
Mikayla Thielges supplied 10 points and 10 rebounds for Silverado. Stacy Rapp scored 13 to lead Coronado.
• Cimarron-Memorial 60, Arbor View 38 -- At Arbor View, Karyn Turner had 15 points and Precious Carroll 14 as the Spartans defeated the Aggies.
Erika Lang and Taylor Shields each scored 11 points for Arbor View.
• Basic 50, Del Sol 18 -- At Del Sol, Michaela Thomas scored 18 points and Marquichea Burns 14 as the Wolves easily beat the Dragons.
• Liberty 48, Foothill 41 -- At Liberty, Jade Washington had 16 points, seven steals and six assists to lead the Patriots, who outscored the Falcons 21-10 in the fourth quarter.
Sabrina Johnson led the Falcons with 10 points.
• Cheyenne 50, Legacy 34 -- At Cheyenne, Ayoola Weaver scored 14 points and Raven Hicks 13 as the Desert Shields downed the Longhorns.
Breanna Watkins led Legacy with 15 points.
• Centennial 99, Palo Verde 50 -- At Centennial, Alexis Byrd had 23 points and seven assists as the Bulldogs rolled.
Johnna Brown added 17 points and 17 rebounds for Centennial. Mikala Pride led the Panthers with 16 points.
• Green Valley 78, Tech 52 -- At Tech, Jazmine Jarvis scored 19 points and Danielle Christenson 18 as the Gators rolled past the Roadrunners.
Cheryl Harless led Tech with 20 points.
