Late RBI double boosts Liberty to baseball triumph

Jordan Dove's double with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday brought home David Kinan with the winning run as Liberty beat visiting Bonanza 6-5 in high school baseball.

Liberty, which trailed 4-0 in the first inning, tied the game when Danny Brundage scored on Tyler Damiano's two-out RBI single in the seventh inning.

Dove had three hits for the Patriots, and Travis Fryman added a double and two RBIs.

Durango 8, Reed 7 -- At Reno, Zach Hollenback scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh to give the Trailblazers the title at the Mike Bearman Tournament.

Hollenback singled home Matt Boghos with the tying run earlier in the inning. Durango's Aaron Kurcz was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and teammate Mike Stiles was named the top defensive player.

Canyon Springs 13, Clark 9 -- At Clark, Kevin Rogers was 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and four runs to lead the Pioneers past the Chargers.

Brady Smith was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs for the Pioneers. Alberto Ortiz added two hits, two RBIs and two runs, and James McCoy went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Manny Estrada and Shayae Bowes each had a home run for the Chargers.

Green Valley 6, Sierra Vista 3 -- At Sierra Vista, Jordan Van Hoosier went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Gators.

Nick Melino was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Gators. Andrew Garcia went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Lions.

Spring Valley 14, Rancho 1 -- At Rancho, Cody Collins was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to help the Grizzlies rout the Rams.

Chase LaComb added two doubles for the Grizzlies. Cameron Brooks, Conner McKenna and Garrett Blair each had two hits for Spring Valley.

Chaparral 15, Tech 5 -- At Chaparral, Isaiah Washington and winning pitcher C.J. Crone each had a two-run double in an eight-run third inning to lift the Cowboys.

Yuma (Ariz.) 4, Las Vegas 2 -- At Yuma, Ariz., the host team scored twice in the fourth inning and twice in the sixth in the title game of the Cibola Invitational.

Wes Grass, Bryce Harper and Trevor Lowe each had two hits for the Wildcats. One of Harper's hits was a triple.

Las Vegas 2, Centennial 1 -- At Yuma, Ariz., Bryan Harper's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning brought home Francisco Rodarte with the eventual winning run for the Wildcats.

Marvin Campbell led off the bottom of the sixth with a double and scored on Rodarte's single. Harper tossed a four-hitter, striking out seven.

Kofa (Ariz.) 5, Centennial 0 -- At Yuma, Ariz., Kofa scored twice in the first inning and held Centennial off the board.

Dominick Monteiro went 3-for-3 for Centennial.

Silverado 13-13, Littlerock (Calif.) 0-1 -- At Silverado, the Skyhawks held Littlerock to four hits in the sweep.

Trevor Kirk was 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs in the first game.

In the second game, Bobby Johnson was 2-for-2 with a double and five RBIs in the Skyhawks' 11-run first inning.

Cimarron-Memorial 7, Lehi (Utah) 4 -- At St. George, Utah, Cody Clark's grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Spartans the win.

Clark, a freshman, was 2-for-3 with six RBIs.

The Meadows 18, Mountain View 12 -- At Alamo, The Meadows scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning.

Guy Capanna had a home run and a triple for the Mustangs.

Mountain View 13, Carlin 6 -- At Alamo, Tanner Peterson had two hits, three RBIs and three runs to lead the Saints over the Railroaders.

Moapa Valley 17-9, Valley 14-6 -- At Overton, the Pirates swept the doubleheader.

Bobby Vallet had four hits and four runs, and Shaun Hilton drove in four in the first game.

In the second game, Matt Newton had three hits and four RBIs for Moapa Valley.

SOFTBALL

Sierra Vista 8, Kingman (Ariz.) 6 -- At Bullhead City, Ariz., Maria Capparelli's two-out double in the bottom of the sixth inning plated Ashley Krumme, breaking a 6-6 tie and lifting Sierra Vista.

Marissa Hanneman followed with a single to score Capparelli before the game was called due to a time limit.

Capparelli also tripled and scored three runs. Hanneman had two RBI singles.

Bingham (Utah) 9, Centennial 3 -- At St. George, Utah, Bingham scored five runs in the first on the way to the Spring Warm-up championship game.

Lindsay Konopelko homered for the Bulldogs.

Centennial 6, Riverton (Utah) 4 -- At St. George, Utah, Jenna Vaneykeren's two-out, three-run double highlighted a five-run sixth that gave the Bulldogs the win.

Centennial 19, Orem (Utah) 1 -- At St. George, Utah, Konopelko was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs to lead the Bulldogs. Katie Lee doubled twice and drove in four runs for Centennial.

Faith Lutheran 15, Spring Creek 3 -- At Needles, Calif., Kaitlyn Patterson hit a home run to help the Crusaders to the win in the championship game of the Colorado River Invitational.

The defending tournament champions outscored opponents 51-5 in going 5-0.

Faith Lutheran 5, Legacy 0 -- At Needles, Calif., Jessie Tracy threw a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking four, to lift the Crusaders into the title game.

Arbor View 9, Moapa Valley 1 -- At Needles, Calif., Amanda Jones and Melissa Bohne each went 3-for-3 to lead the Aggies to the win in the Colorado River Invitational.

Savannah Webster added a home run, and Nichole Diaz pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to get the win.

Arbor View 3, Yuma (Ariz.) 2 -- At Needles, Calif., Amanda Jones singled home the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Aggies the win.

Tiffanee Anderson singled home the tying run earlier in the sixth. Webster also homered.
