LEFTOVERS Running with Kobe not easy

A day in the life of Kobe Bryant can be a hectic experience. The Los Angeles Lakers star is always on the go, whether leading a fast break or zipping through traffic in his $300,000-plus Ferrari.

Bryant often works out at 3 a.m. to start his day, and his workouts are brutally tough to help him endure the toll a long NBA season can take on his body.

Rick Reilly of ESPN.com was granted a rare all-access pass to a day in Bryant's life, and here are some Bryant facts that were revealed:

-- Bryant has taken up golf. He recently played with Maris Valainis, also known as Jimmy Chitwood in "Hoosiers."

-- He loves marketing and advertising. He conceived and wrote a Carl's Jr. poster, which featured Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and himself. (What, no Shaquille O'Neal?)

-- He and his wife, Vanessa, have two daughters but no nannies. His daughters speak a mix of English, Spanish and Italian. Bryant would like to have a son.

-- Bryant's sexual assault case that began in the summer of 2003 in Colorado almost cost him his marriage. (No kidding?)

-- Most sports talk radio makes him nauseous.

-- He's addicted to Discovery Channel and loves to spearfish.

-- He has no plans to opt out of his contract at the end of this season, but "you can never absolutely say no, right?"

* FORGET FREE SPEECH -- The NBA fined three coaches -- Houston's Rick Adelman, Portland's Nate McMillan and Boston's Doc Rivers -- $25,000 each for publicly criticizing referees during the playoffs.

Meanwhile, commissioner David Stern scoffed at the notion of crooked officiating, denied the existence of Tim Donaghy and said referees never favor superstars or miss traveling calls.

* CANSECO NOT A HIT -- Jose Canseco was a juiced-up slugger, but the former baseball star is not much of a fighter.

He boxed Danny Bonaduce, a former "Partridge Family" child star, to a majority draw in a match in January. You might think after that embarrassment, he never would show his face in public again, and you would be wrong. Canseco is set to make his mixed martial arts debut on May 26 in Japan.

He is fighting South Korean Hong Man Choi, a 7-foot-2-inch, 330-pound super heavyweight.

The winner is scheduled to play Mike Tyson in table tennis.

* BETTER THAN MUD WRESTLING? -- The 10-team Lingerie Football League will kick off this fall. Seven-woman teams will play each other clad in bikini tops, short shorts and helmets, starting with the Miami Caliente and Chicago Bliss on Sept. 4 in Chicago.

Here's hoping a naked bootleg is in the playbook.

* NIGHT AT THE BEACH -- The general public never had a chance to purchase tickets to UFC 100, scheduled for July 11 at Mandalay Bay. The event sold out during the Ultimate Fighting Championship's two-day pre-sale.

Beginning today fans will have an opportunity to purchase tickets to a closed-circuit screening of the event at The Beach at Mandalay Bay. The tickets, priced at $50, go on sale at noon at the Mandalay Bay box office and all Ticketmaster locations.
