Littlefield’s 38 points power Lake Mead boys past Trinity

Landon Littlefield became the all-time scoring leader for Lake Mead's boys basketball team this month.

And if the senior guard continues filling it up like he did Saturday, it will be a long time before anyone catches him.

Littlefield poured in 38 points as the Eagles rolled to an 81-63 home win over Trinity in the Class 1A Southern League.

"A lot of people say Landon's a great offensive player, but they underestimate his passing and defensive abilities," Lake Mead coach Jeff Newton said. "It couldn't have happened to a better or harder working kid."

Littlefield reached 2,001 career points in a win at Sandy Valley on Jan. 19 to claim the program's career scoring mark, surpassing former Eagles guard Mike Ellis.

He scored 26 of his 38 points Saturday in the first half, including 19 in the first quarter.

Lake Mead (18-3, 8-0) responded to Trinity's early press with 18-0 and 12-0 runs in the first quarter. The Eagles led 38-12 entering the second period.

"We like to think when teams press us, we're going to make them pay," said Littlefield, who also had nine assists and four steals. "It's been awhile since we've been pressed. Maybe our experienced backcourt gets teams away from that."

De'Quan Thompson scored 10 of his 27 points on dunks and grabbed seven rebounds for Lake Mead.

Budweiser Hawkins led Trinity (11-10, 4-3) with 25 points and eight rebounds. David Agwara scored 14 points, and Tyler Watts supplied 11 points and eight rebounds for the Thunder.

Trinity, which had only eight players active for the game, trailed 73-41 entering the fourth quarter.

The two-time defending 1A state champion Eagles won their 37th straight league game, a streak dating to the 2006-07 season.

"We feel like we're in a good spot," Littlefield said. "Every one of the kids on this team has bought in this year and worked hard. I've been (a state champion) twice. I feel like we're on the road to getting there."
