Lynx’s Walker sets state career scoring record
Lincoln County senior guard Dantley Walker broke the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association's career boys basketball scoring record Saturday, racking up 64 points in the Lynx's 95-88 home win over Lake Mead.
Walker entered the game needing 51 points to tie current Portland Trail Blazers forward and former Galena standout Luke Babbitt, who had 2,941 career points from 2005 to 2008.
An NBA-range 3-pointer midway through the fourth quarter gave Walker his 2,942nd career point and the record.
He scored 12 more points in the final 3:30, giving him 27 in the fourth quarter, as he topped 60 points in a game for the second time in 15 days. Walker scored 62 points against Needles on Jan. 7.
The 64 points are believed to be the single-game high in the nation this year and are six shy of the NIAA single-game mark of 70.
Walker now has 2,954 career points.
"He was locked in," said Lincoln County assistant coach Greg Walker, Dantley's father. "He wanted to do it at home in front of our fans."
The Lynx's next two games are on the road.
Walker drained nine 3-pointers, was 17-for-17 from the free-throw line and had seven assists.
And the Lynx needed every bit of it.
Lake Mead's L.J. Yamzon sank 11 3-pointers and finished with 40 points, 22 in the fourth quarter.
Of the 66 points scored in the fourth quarter, Walker and Yamzon had 49.
Chandler Katschke added 13 points for Lincoln County.
