Malm’s mastery in relief saves Gaels’ baseball win
Jeff Malm struck out six batters in 2 1/3 innings to slam the door on Green Valley and earn a save as Bishop Gorman gained an 8-3 baseball victory over Green Valley at Hadland Park on Monday.
Malm entered the game after the Gators scored two runs in the fifth inning to cut the Gaels' lead to 6-3.
Joey Rickard went 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead Gorman's offense, and Malm and Brandon Garcia each had two hits.
Malm also scored twice, and Garcia drove in two and hit a home run.
Brett Harrison had a homer and triple for the Gators.
• Silverado 9, Palo Verde 2 -- At Silverado, Stefan Norman's two-run homer in the fifth inning helped the Skyhawks defeat Palo Verde.
Jordan Keegan went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored for Silverado.
• Arbor View 14, Canyon Springs 0 -- At Canyon Springs, Arbor View scored 13 runs in the top of the first inning and cruised past the Pioneers.
Zack Hartman was 3-for-3 with four RBIs for Arbor View. Jacob Badger was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs for the Aggies.
• Bonanza 14, Foothill 2 -- At Bonanza, the Bengals scored 13 runs in the first two innings and never looked back in defeating the Falcons.
Jordan Hanley went 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs for Bonanza. Phillip Navarro went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs.
Nick Bryant went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Bengals.
• Centennial 15, Wooster 5 -- At Centennial, Dominick Monteiro was 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBIs to lead the Bulldogs to a five-inning win.
Matt Triana was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Centennial, and Garrett Presser drove in two runs.
• Rancho 14, Western 1 -- At Rancho, Eric Holdren went 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs as the Rams beat the Warriors in five innings.
Coleman Green had a home run and three RBIs for Rancho, which took control with a six-run first inning.
• Del Sol 5, Legacy 4 -- At Del Sol, David Day was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs as the Dragons edged the Longhorns.
Scottez Dobbins was 2-for-3 with a double and earned the win in relief.
Chase Skinner went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Legacy.
• Calvary Chapel 5, Liberty 3 -- At College of Southern Nevada, Nick Kingham pitched a complete game, striking out eight and scattering five hits as the Lions defeated Patriots.
Gabe Douglas went 2-for-2 with a double for Cavalry Chapel. Liberty's Kyle Rynearson struck out eight and allowed four hits.
SOFTBALL
• Bishop Gorman 6, Bishop Manogue 5 -- At Faith Lutheran, the Gaels scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for the win.
Christina Thompson was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Gaels.
• Spring Valley 11, Rancho 4 -- At Rancho, Katie Garcia went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs to propel the Grizzlies.
Jasmine Wilson also had four hits for Spring Valley.
Rancho's Amerissa Villamar had three hits and three RBIs.
• Legacy 15, Chaparral 0 -- At Legacy, Darcey Cochran pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out nine, to lead the Longhorns past Chaparral.
Jessica Wilhelm had two triples and three RBI for Legacy. Lorena Rios was 2-for-3.
• Sierra Vista 6, Cimarron-Memorial 3 -- At Cimarron, Desiree Laswell's solo home run helped Sierra Vista to a 6-3 victory over the Spartans.
Chelsea Williams was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Cimarron.
• Bishop Manogue 7, Faith Lutheran 6 -- At Faith Lutheran, the Miners scored three runs in the fifth inning to build a 7-3 lead and held on to beat the Crusaders.
Jessie Tracy had a home run and three RBIs for Faith Lutheran.
