Marshall’s assists power Western to first league win

Brian Marshall compiled 23 assists as Western's boys volleyball team earned its first league victory, 25-23, 27-25, 25-21 over Spring Valley on Monday.

Zach Fowler had 14 kills for the Warriors, and Phillip Payne added 11.

Dallas Teshima led the Grizzlies with 15 assists. Thomas Ricca added eight kills, and Tristan Gonzales had six kills and five digs.

• Las Vegas 3, Desert Pines 0 -- At Desert Pines, Jonathan Dugan supplied 14 kills, 10 digs and three blocks to carry the Wildcats to a 25-20, 25-9, 25-19 win over the Jaguars.

Danny Farias added 31 assists, and Ridge Kanet had eight kills. Paul Burns led Desert Pines with 15 kills.

• Palo Verde 3, Sierra Vista 0 -- At Sierra Vista, Adam Nieman made 28 assists as the Panthers defeated the Lions, 26-24, 25-21, 25-23.

Tyler Capko had 14 kills for the Panthers, and Clayton Worthen added eight kills. Joe White led the Lions with 17 kills and two blocks, while Josh McLain had 11 kills.

• Canyon Springs 3, Valley 1 -- At Canyon Springs, Ray Esteves contributed 30 assists, 14 digs and six blocks to lead the Pioneers to a 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 win over the Vikings.

Nate Lewis made 11 kills and 16 digs for Canyon Springs. Jake Houghtailing added 11 digs and seven kills, and Kapahu Kahalepo added eight kills and six digs.

Jimmy Videaux had 30 assists and five blocks for Valley. Alonzo Blount added 13 kills and David Michaels 12 kills.

• Rancho 3, Chaparral 0 -- At Rancho, Kevin Wadsworth dished out 36 assists in the Rams' 25-18, 27-25, 25-20 victory over the Cowboys..

Steve Cuevas had 12 digs for the Rams, J.B. Drury had 10 kills, and DeJon Bowman added seven blocks and nine kills.

Carlos Chandia had seven assists for the Cowboys, and DeAndre Marshall added five kills and two blocks.

• Foothill 3, Del Sol 1 -- At Foothill, Cody Clay had seven kills and 11 digs to spark the Falcons to a 25-15, 15-25, 25-23, 25-14 win over the Dragons.

Jordan Monga added 11 assists and five kills, and Walter Coe had five blocks and three kills.

Bryan Grenier compiled 13 kills, 11 assists and seven digs for the Dragons. Dane Gunter added 19 assists, and Heinz Suarez had eight kills and eight digs.

• Bishop Gorman 3, Clark 1 -- At Gorman, Jake Houser had 22 kills and 17 assists in the Gaels' 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 26-24 victory over the Chargers.

Riley Foley added 26 digs for the Gaels, and Kamana Kaimikaua had 25 assists and nine kills.

• Bonanza 3, Durango 0 -- At Durango, Scott Davis had eight kills and eight blocks as the Bengals beat the Trailblazers, 25-15, 25-9, 25-19.

Jason Bedford had seven kills, and Jesse Mackay had 34 assists for Bonanza.

Darren Torrie had 13 assists for the Trailblazers, and Frank Keil spiked seven kills.
