Mistakes hurt Eldorado in tournament

Eldorado's baseball team was the only area squad to win an opening-round game at the Calvary Chapel Easter Bash on Thursday.

But the Sundevils showed their youth on Friday.

Eldorado has only four seniors on the entire team, and the Sundevils made plenty of mistakes during a pair of games Friday.

The Sundevils made several key baserunning miscues and committed 10 errors in dropping two games at Eldorado High School.

Eldorado lost to Cal Poly of Sun Valley, Calif., 15-1 in the first game and 4-2 to Mater Dei from Chula Vista, Calif., in the second contest.

In the second game, Eldorado got a solid pitching performance from Julio Diaz but didn't get timely hits.

In the first inning, the Sundevils pushed across a run and then loaded the bases with one out. However, Jared Hoven struck out, and Manuel Estrada was tagged out at home trying to score on a pitch that got past the catcher.

Eldorado threatened again in the second inning, with runners at first and second. But Zach Cook was thrown out at home on a Ryan Taylor single. Chris Brown then was nailed at third trying to steal.

The Sundevils had three runners thrown out at the plate, and two others were picked off the bases.

Diaz allowed four runs on five hits and struck out four for Eldorado. Casey Roehr and Corey Keplinger had the RBIs for the Sundevils.
