Nelson’s HRs spark Sky Sox rout of 51s

Chris Nelson hit two three-run homers, and the Colorado Springs Sky Sox pounded the 51s 11-4 in the Pacific Coast League on Thursday at Colorado Springs, Colo.
Las Vegas went 1-4 in the series and 4-5 on the trip. The 51s will return to Cashman Field to open a four-game series against the Tucson Padres beginning at 7:05 p.m. today.
The 51s fell behind 6-1 after two innings, with Nelson delivering his first home run in the second. His other homer, his ninth of the season, came during a five-run sixth that expanded Colorado Springs' lead to 11-3.
Nelson finished 4-for-5 with six RBIs and three runs for the Sky Sox (45-54). Alfredo Amezaga was 3-for-5, including an RBI single in the sixth, and scored three times. Matt Pagnozzi and Mike Paulk both had two hits, the latter hitting a two-run double in the first.
Nelson's home runs were off 51s starter Robert Ray and Ronald Uviedo. Each pitched two innings, combining to allow 13 hits and all 11 runs, all earned.
The 51s had 13 hits but left eight runners on base. Ricardo Nanita and Brett Lawrie each went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Darin Mastroianna had two hits and scored twice, and Brian Jeroloman also had two hits.
