Nix, Cooper power 51s’ road win

Jayson Nix hit a two-run homer during Las Vegas' three-run first inning, and David Cooper had three hits and three RBIs, carrying the 51s to a 5-3 victory over the Salt Lake Bees in a Pacific Coast League game Friday at Salt Lake City.

Nix followed Cooper's RBI double with his sixth home run, off Salt Lake right-hander Tyler Chatwood (1-2), who was sent to Salt Lake (59-75) last week after going 6-9 for the Los Angeles Angels.

The 51s (66-68) added two runs in the fourth, with Cooper's two-out single knocking in Ryan Budde and Darin Mastroianni.

Las Vegas left-hander Brad Mills (10-8) went seven innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, including a second-inning solo homer by Efren Navarro. Mills struck out four and walked none. Ronald Uviedo and Danny Farquhar (13 saves) each pitched an inning of spotless relief.

The teams continue their five-game series at 5:35 p.m. PDT today.
