No. 6 Aztecs top Lobos, tie victory mark

SAN DIEGO -- Kawhi Leonard had 22 points and nine rebounds, and Malcolm Thomas had 22 points and four blocked shots as No. 6 San Diego State beat New Mexico 68-62 on Wednesday night to tie the school record with the Aztecs' 26th victory.
San Diego State (26-1, 11-1 Mountain West Conference) has the nation's best record and matched the school mark set by the 2008-09 team, which went 26-10 and reached the National Invitation Tournament semifinals. The Aztecs have won six straight since their only loss, at Brigham Young on Jan. 26.
San Diego State took a 47-33 lead after Leonard made two free throws with 12:10 left, but New Mexico (17-9, 5-6) rallied. Dairese Gary made two free throws with 1:20 left to bring the Lobos within 58-54.
Leonard drove the baseline for a layup with 49.7 seconds left, but Gary then hit a 17-foot jumper to make the score 60-56. The Aztecs finished off the Lobos by going 8 of 10 on free throws in the final 34.9 seconds.
■ Colorado State 69, Texas Christian 55 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, Greg Smith had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rams past the Horned Frogs.
Colorado State (18-7, 8-3) led most of the game in securing its third straight win. Andy Ogide had 20 points for the Rams.
Nikola Cerina and J.R. Cadot scored 12 points apiece for the Horned Frogs (10-17, 1-11).
■ Utah 80, Wyoming 70 -- At Salt Lake City, Chris Kupets scored 20 points and Josh Watkins and Will Clyburn 19 each as the Utes snapped a five-game skid.
David Foster, a 7-foot-3-inch center, had a career high 13 rebounds and blocked three shots for Utah (11-15, 4-8).
Desmar Jackson had 17 points for Wyoming (9-17, 2-10), which started the game with only eight active players and finished with five after two fouled out and another was injured.
