No. 7 Aztecs unimpressive, hold off TCU
SAN DIEGO -- Billy White of Las Vegas scored 19 points and Kawhi Leonard had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead sluggish No. 7 San Diego State to a 60-53 victory over Texas Christian on Saturday.
Malcolm Thomas added 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Aztecs (23-1, 8-1 Mountain West), who have won three straight since their only loss, 71-58 at BYU on Jan. 26. San Diego State continues to share the conference lead with No. 8 BYU, which defeated UNLV 78-64.
The Aztecs came out flat three nights after winning by two points at Colorado State, reflected by their 12-for-29 shooting (41.4 percent) in the first half.
Playing without guard Chase Tapley (left ankle) and forward Tim Shelton (right foot) after first-half injuries, San Diego State used a 6-0 run to take a 34-26 lead with 15:47 to play.
Hank Thorns (Valley High) scored 16 points to lead TCU (10-14, 1-8), which lost its sixth straight.
■ Air Force 54, Utah 49 -- At Salt Lake City, Zach Bohannon had 12 points and the Falcons (13-9, 4-5) held on for a road victory over the Utes (10-13, 3--6).
Bohannon also had eight rebounds and five assists for Air Force, which has won consecutive Mountain West road games after losing its previous 20.
Shawn Glover scored 15 points to lead Utah, which has lost three straight.
■ Colorado State 59, Wyoming 56 -- At Laramie, Wyo., Pierce Hornung had 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench to spark the Rams (16-7, 6-3) to a road win.
After seven ties and 14 lead changes, Colorado State took control with a 10-2 run for a 43-38 lead early in the second half. The Rams didn't trail thereafter.
Francisco Cruz scored a career-high 21 points for Wyoming (8-15, 1-8), which has lost seven in a row.
