ROCKIES  NICASIO STRUCK BY LINER, INJURES NECK

Rockies pitcher Juan Nicasio suffered a neck injury when he was struck on the head by a line drive in the second inning of Colorado's 5-3 home loss to Washington on Friday.

Nicasio was carted off the field and taken to a hospital, where he was resting comfortably while undergoing a battery of tests.

The right-hander was struck by a ball off the bat of Washington's Ian Desmond. The ball slammed into the right side of Nicasio's head with a smack and caromed away, rolling over the first-base line.

Nicasio went down and lay flat on the mound for several minutes as he was attended to by training staff. He was moved onto a cart by four medical personnel, helped by teammate Todd Helton and manager Jim Tracy.

Nicasio could be seen blinking and moving his hands and legs before he was put on a stability board and loaded onto a cart.

Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said, "We kept asking the trainers about his condition as the game was going on. It was hard to play a game after that."

■ DODGERS -- Los Angeles will call up right-hander Nathan Eovaldi from Double-A Chattanooga to start today at Arizona. Eovaldi, 21, hadn't pitched above Single-A until this season.

Also, the Dodgers and MLB have agreed on a bankruptcy financing plan for the team. A court filing outlines a plan for the league to provide unsecured financing of up to $150 million for the team.

■ BREWERS -- Milwaukee infielder Craig Counsell snapped an 0-for-45 drought with a pinch-hit single in the ninth inning of an 8-1 victory at Houston.

Counsell was one hitless at-bat from tying a major league record. But he singled to right against Astros reliever Enerio Del Rosario for his first hit since June 10.

■ CUBS -- Tony Campana hit an inside-the-park homer for his first major league homer in Chicago's 4-3 home victory over Cincinnati.

Campana became the first Cub to hit an inside-the-park shot at Wrigley Field for his first homer. The last Cub whose first major league homer was inside the park was Carmen Mauro, who did it at St. Louis on Oct. 3, 1948.

■ BRAVES -- Outfielder Nate McLouth had sports hernia surgery and will be out at least six weeks. McLouth was placed on the 15-day disabled list last week.

■ METS -- First baseman Ike Davis will scale back his rehabilitation from a bone bruise in his left ankle and almost certainly will miss the rest of the season, the team said.
