Ornery tweet stirs God’s ire

When it comes to helping professional athletes succeed, God seemingly never drops the ball.

Players from winning teams long have thanked him for their success. But now it appears players from losing teams might start blaming him for their failures.

After dropping what would have been the winning pass Sunday in Buffalo's 19-16 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bills receiver Steve Johnson wrote on his Twitter account, in effect, that God dropped the ball, not him.

"I PRAISE YOU 24/7!!!!!! AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!!" he wrote. "YOU EXPECT ME TO LEARN FROM THIS??? HOW???!!! ILL NEVER FORGET THIS!! EVER!!! THX THO…"

After a member of his online staff briefed him on the tweet, God sent a message to Johnson.

"YOU'RE ACTUALLY BLAMING THIS ON ME? THIS HOW YOU DO ME??!!? THX THO?!!??" he wrote. "U FORGET HOW U GOT TO THE NFL??!!?? AND THAT I HAD STEELERS ON MONEY LINE??!!!?? U DROPPED IT, NOT ME!!!! RETRACT THAT STATEMENT!!! OR ELSE!!!!!"

Not surprisingly, Johnson backtracked from his comments Monday.

"And No I Did Not Blame God People! Seriously??!? CMon!" he wrote. "I Simply Cried Out And Asked Why? Jus Like yal did when sumthin went wrong n ur life!"

After dealing with more pressing matters, a forgiving God got back to Johnson today: "GREAT GRAMMAR. LOL. PEACE!!!"

■ NO LAUGHING MATTER -- Arizona Cardinals quarterback Derek Anderson and right guard Deuce Lutui were shown laughing on the sideline late in Monday's 27-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

When Arizona Republic reporter Kent Somers asked him about it after the game, Anderson had a meltdown.

"What Deuce and I talk about is nobody else's business," he said.

Somers: "But why was something funny when you're down 18 points in the fourth quarter?"

Anderson: "It wasn't funny -- I wasn't laughing about anything."

Somers: "But the cameras showed you laughing ..."

Anderson: "OK, that's fine. … I'm not laughing about it. You think this is funny? I take this (expletive) serious! Real serious! I put my heart and soul into this (expletive) every single week!"

Somers: "All I'm saying is that the cameras showed you ..."

Anderson: "I'm just telling you right now what I do every single week! Every single week! I put my freaking heart and soul into this; I study my ass off! I don't go out there and laugh! It's not funny! Nothing's funny to me! I don't want to go out there and get embarrassed on 'Monday Night Football' in front of everybody!"

Somers: "But that's why I'm asking you ..."

Anderson: "I'm telling you right now! We were talking! Deuce and I were talking!"

Somers: "What was the context of the ..."

Anderson: "I'm done."

He then stormed off, giggling as he recalled Lutui's line, "Can you believe they're paying you $7.25 million to play like this?"
