Plaisted sparks BYU to 46th straight home win

PROVO -- Trent Plaisted scored 20 points Saturday to lead Brigham Young to a 76-57 victory over Air Force.

The Cougars (23-6, 12-2 Mountain West) improved their home-court winning streak to 46 games, the longest active run in the nation. BYU maintained its one-game lead over second-place UNLV (11-3).

Air Force (14-13, 6-8) struggled from the floor, shooting 32 percent for the game and 25 percent in the second half. The Falcons, who normally shoot 38 percent on 3-point attempts, were 1-for-12.

The Cougars scored the final six points of the first half and the first 10 points of the second half to push a 26-24 lead in the first half to 42-24 with 17:20 remaining.

Air Force coach Jeff Reynolds received a technical foul, following a Plaisted dunk, that gave Lee Cummard two free throws to cap the Cougars' 16-0 run.

Bishop Gorman High School product Jonathan Tavernari had 12 points for the Cougars, and Cummard scored 10.

Andrew Henke led Air Force with 14 points, the only Falcon in double figures.

San Diego State 86, Colorado State 62 -- At San Diego, Ryan Amoroso scored 23 points as the Aztecs handed the Rams their 15th straight loss.

D.J. Gay and Billy White, a Green Valley High School graduate, joined Amoroso in double figures with 18 and 16 points for San Diego State (19-10, 9-6 MWC).

Colorado State (6-22, 0-14) has lost 19 straight road games this season. The Rams' last victory came at home on Dec. 29, 2007, against Western State, 87-47.

Lorrenzo Wade, a Cheyenne High School product, had eight points, eight rebounds and a game-high 11 assists for the Aztecs.

Wyoming 72, Utah 64 -- At Laramie, Wyo., Brad Jones scored 20 points to lead the Cowboys past the Utes.

Utah (15-12, 6-8 MWC) stayed within range as the game wound down, but Wyoming (12-16, 5-10) prevailed on free throws.

Jones hit two 3-pointers during a 17-6 run that gave the Cowboys a 45-34 lead with 12 minutes remaining.
