Player suspended for punch that KO’d Wrangler

The ECHL suspended Victoria left wing Robin Gomez indefinitely Tuesday until it completes a thorough investigation of an incident that took place midway through Las Vegas' 5-4 victory Saturday in Victoria, British Columbia.

Gomez threw a sucker punch to the face of Wranglers center Chris Ferraro and was assessed a minor penalty for instigating, a major penalty for fighting and a match penalty for attempting to deliberately injure.

The league also suspended Wranglers left wing Marco Peluso for two games and fined him an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions. Peluso reportedly punched Gomez in retaliation for the incident that left Ferraro unconscious for 15 minutes on the ice, in a puddle of his blood from a gash in the back of his head that took eight stitches to close.

The Wranglers defeated the Stockton Thunder 5-1 on Tuesday night at the Orleans Arena.

Peter Ferraro scored three goals for his first hat trick of the season, center Tyler Mosienko set up three goals and Ryan Donally had two assists as the Wranglers won the season series with Stockton 7-1-1.
