Prep events canceled for second straight day
For the second straight day Thursday, the Clark County School District postponed its entire schedule of athletic events because of a rare snowstorm in Southern Nevada.
Thursday's classes were canceled by the district late Wednesday night, but the decision to postpone games wasn't made until early Thursday.
"It's a transportation issue, and at the same time it's a safety issue," said Pam Sloan, school district assistant director of athletics. "The employees who operate the buses are not at work today."
More than 80 basketball games and soccer and wrestling matches were canceled or postponed Wednesday and Thursday. When they'll be rescheduled isn't known.
Games in the Bishop Gorman and Vegas Invitational basketball tournaments were played, albeit with revised schedules.
Centennial's girls and Canyon Springs' boys were among the basketball teams finally able to fly out Thursday to participate in tournaments.
Centennial, playing in a tournament in Phoenix, boarded a 6:30 a.m. flight at McCarran International Airport on Thursday. The plane took off shortly after 10 a.m., and the Bulldogs arrived at their game seven minutes before tip-off.
