Prep star chooses ‘classy’ over TD

Sportsmanship hasn't completely disappeared. In Cave City, Ark., it apparently is alive and well thanks to Thamail Morgan.

Morgan, the star player for Cave City High School, passed up a sure touchdown so he wouldn't run up the score against Yellville-Summit, which had been rocked by tragedy two weeks earlier when one player died and three others were injured in a car crash.

With Cave City ahead 34-16, Morgan fielded a kickoff in the final seconds, broke into the clear, headed to the end zone, then stopped. Morgan was at the 2-yard line when he backed up to the 5 and took a knee as time expired.

"Before the game, we talked about being classy," Morgan told ArkansasVarsity.com. "As I was running, my teammates were yelling at me not to score, and I knew it was the right thing to do."

Morgan was fortunate to be on the field that night. He had been suspended by the school for a year after an unspecified off-the-field incident. Coach Jon Bradley was willing to reinstate Morgan with conditions, including Morgan performing community service and seeking counseling.

Morgan has not had any problems since. And Yellville-Summit appreciated his sportsmanlike gesture.

"After the game, they complimented us and even thanked us for the way we played them," Morgan said. "They are some really cool cats, and I wish them the best of luck with their healing process."

FRIENDS OR FOES? -- Holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree continues to befuddle his would-be San Francisco 49ers teammates with his unwillingness to come to terms with the team.

According to ESPN.com, Crabtree has caught so much flak from the Niners' players that he has changed his cell phone number.

Crabtree, the 10th overall player taken in April's NFL Draft, has until Nov. 17 to sign with San Francisco or he must sit out the entire 2009 season.

NOT SO GREAT -- Wayne Gretzky might have been the greatest player to climb over the boards in NHL history, but when it came to standing behind the bench, The Great One wasn't all that great.

Gretzky resigned Thursday with a less-than-inspiring 143-161-24 record in four years as the Phoenix Coyotes coach -- not surprising given he had never coached before.

Phoenix lacked discipline and apparently never had a consistent system of play, according to former Coyotes player Derek Morris, who told the Boston Globe, "We were kind of changing every day."

TWITTER TROUBLE -- One drawback of having a Twitter account is that you run the risk of having it hijacked. Apparently, whoever pirated Warren Sapp's Twitter account didn't realize he's 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 302 pounds.

Profootballtalk.com reports that someone hacked Sapp's Twitter account "@QBKilla" and locked him out. Sapp, who loves to talk and text, is apparently pretty worked up over it and vows to track down the culprit.
