Purcey’s solid start guides 51s to 6-1 win at Portland
David Purcey allowed two hits in six innings, and the 51s scored in each of the first five innings to defeat the Portland Beavers 6-1 on Thursday in a Pacific Coast League game at Portland, Ore.
Purcey (5-4) allowed one run, struck out six and walked three. Randy Ruiz hit his 23rd home run for Las Vegas, a two-run shot in the third. That was sandwiched between single runs by the 51s in the first, second, fourth and fifth.
Buck Coats and Travis Snider each supplied two hits and an RBI for Las Vegas (51-55).
The teams finish their four-game series at 7:05 p.m. today, then the 51s return to Cashman Field on Saturday to start a four-game series against Salt Lake.
