Rainiers’ Redman double trouble for 51s

Prentice Redman had two doubles that drove in four runs Friday night in lifting the Tacoma Rainiers to an 8-4 win over the 51s in a Pacific Coast League game in Tacoma, Wash.

Redman's two-out, three-run double in the seventh capped the scoring in a five-run inning for the Rainiers (47-52) in which all of the runs were unearned. Third baseman Kevin Howard's bases-loaded fielding error on a force attempt prolonged the inning for Redman's big hit.

Redman also had an RBI double in the Rainiers' two-run first inning, and Tacoma pinch hitter Brad Nelson clubbed a solo homer in the eighth.

Howard had two doubles and scored two runs, Angel Sanchez went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Randy Ruiz went 2-for-2 with an RBI and three walks for Las Vegas (47-53), which had an 11-8 edge in hits but left 15 runners on base. Tacoma stranded five.

David Purcey (4-4) started for the 51s. He gave up seven runs -- two earned -- on six hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out nine. Justin Thomas (1-4) got the win in relief.
