Rebels right-hander named Mountain West pitcher of the week
Rebels right-hander Erick Fedde was named the Mountain West pitcher of the week, after setting the tone for the Rebels’ four-game sweep of Central Michigan over the weekend.
In the season opener, Fedde dominated for 7 1/3 innings, striking out 11 while giving up one hit and no walks. The Rebels beat the Chippewas 5-0.
After the sweep, UNLV was ranked No. 29 on Monday by Collegiate Baseball News. Cal State Fullerton was ranked No. 1.
The Rebels were ranked briefly last season for the first time since 2003.
UNLV opens a three-game series against Tennessee on Friday in Knoxville. Their next home series begins Feb. 28 against Air Force.
