Redbirds’ Broderick shuts down 51s

The 51s mustered just one run on nine hits Tuesday night, falling 5-1 to the Memphis Redbirds in a Pacific Coast League game at Memphis, Tenn.
Las Vegas (62-62) trailed 5-0 after the fifth inning and couldn't break through until the seventh inning against Nashville starter Brian Broderick. Jason Nix doubled to lead off the seventh for the 51s, then scored one out later on a Manny Mayorson single.
Broderick exited after the seventh, allowing eight hits and no walks, with two strikeouts.
Mark Hamilton had an RBI double for Memphis (64-59) in the bottom of the first, and Shane Robinson tripled and scored on a Nick Stavinoha single in the third. The Redbirds got two runs in the fourth, including a Pete Kozma double, and Bryan Anderson had a two-out RBI single in the fifth.
