Redbirds overwhelm 51s
The 51s gave up six runs in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth, losing to the Memphis Redbirds 14-10 on Sunday in a Pacific Coast League game in Memphis, Tenn.
Las Vegas (25-31) scored twice in the sixth inning, on a Ken Huckaby RBI single and Delwyn Young RBI double. The 51s got two more runs in the top of the seventh, with Choo Freeman and Larry Barnes hitting RBI singles to put the 51s up 9-6.
But in the bottom of the inning, the Redbirds took command against reliever B.J. LaMura. Rico Washington had an RBI single, and Mike McCoy followed with a three-run homer.
LaMura then walked Ryan Christianson before being lifted for Matt White, who allowed three straight singles, including Edgar Gonzalez's two-RBI hit to cap the outburst.
In the eighth inning, Memphis (27-31) got a two-run double from Randy Keisler to make the score 14-9.
Mitch Jones homered in the ninth for Las Vegas' final run.
John Rodriguez homered twice for the Redbirds.
