Roach allows one hit; Gaels gain 10-0 win
Donn Roach fired a one-hitter to guide Bishop Gorman to a 10-0 victory over Louisville, Colo., on Friday in the American Legion Western Regional at Kearns, Utah.
Roach struck out 12 and walked one in a game shortened to seven innings because of the 10-run rule.
Roach, who recently committed to Arizona, allowed only a fourth-inning single to Joe Manders. Roach dominated a Louisville team that scored 25 runs in a first-round victory over Pearl City, Hawaii.
The Gaels (57-20) jumped on Louisville (39-15) for four runs on three hits in the first inning and improved to 2-0 in the tournament.
Scott Dysinger and John Rickard had RBI singles in the inning, and Paul Sewald hit a two-run homer, his second home run of the tournament.
Gorman scored three runs in the third, keyed by a two-run single by Erik VanMeetren. He singled home another run in the fifth to make it 7-0, and the Gaels added three runs in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
R.J. Santigate had an RBI single, Dysinger walked with the bases loaded, and Santigate scored the final run on a passed ball.
VanMeetren led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Sewald was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Rickard was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Gorman plays host Kearns (34-4) at 7 p.m. today. Kearns improved to 2-0 on Friday with a 6-4, 10-inning victory over Tucson, Ariz.
